SSD or Velociraptor

August 5th, 2016

Which one should I go after?
SSD are expensive I know. I just want to know which is better for fast boot up times, programs and source games without any hassle?
I can buy 2x of SSD if 1 for boot up and other 1 for programs and games only but I need all of your opinions here.
Which brand of SSD are the best out there? Intel ones? Corsair? G.Skill?
By the way, I dont need much GB, as I’m not heavy programmer, gamer. Only play source games. so I mostly only need roughly 120 GB at a max.

SSD by far. Velociraptors are really not worth for what you get. You can completely wipe the floor with a Velociraptor with a $80 RAID config from a couple of Spinpoint F3s. The best SSDs currently are the ones with the Sandforce SF-1200 controller and the Crucial C300 (Marvel controller). Here’s a list of the stuff you should look for.
Crucial C300 (Marvel)
OCZ Vertex 2 (Sandforce)
Mushkin Callisto (Sandforce)
G.Skill Pheonix (Sandforce)
The Crucial C300 128GB for $270 or a Vertex 2 120GB for $240 are both good deals
Intel is going release their 3rd generation 22nm SSDs very soon though so you might want to hold off for a while.
Answer #2
ssd mate, ssd’s are fairly cheap now for a 60gb such as a OCZ vertex 2 for example, get 2 of these in a raid 0 and your looking at around 450-500 speeds… Raptors are old!! If anything get some WD blacks..

My country, Australia. At my Local PC stores (4 nearby my place) doesn’t have any of them that you mentioned. They only have the brands that I have mention above.
Have a look at this page http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&bid=5&id2=159
That site where I usually where I buy off them alot.. Sometime I use GameDude – www.gamedude.com.au but they rarely update their website and products on there.

So are you saying G.Skill is the best brand for SSD? I just want to know which brands are best for SSD, then I can always look up on eBay to buy them off online for a best SSD around to use. Still after 120 GB if you are concern

So are you saying G.Skill is the best brand for SSD? Nope. Just selecting off the stuff that’s in stock on that website. I would get a Vertex 2 if I were you.
