[SOLVED]question about new MOBO and CPU installment

If I install a new MOBO and CPU…does the hard drive have to be reformatted? Thanks!

that seems wrong to me becuase i have moved hard drives to different computers with out hte need of new reforrmating.

It depends mate, in most cases you won’t be able to boot the OS contained inside that partition. You can read the drive from a OS on one that was installed on that computer.

That all depends, a new motherboard ussualy contains another chipset, audio drivers,… it’s mostly luck, but 95% of the time the OS will crash, he is better of taking an hour to install everything then wasting hours dealing with all the errors he probably will get.

yeah i see what your saying but it really depends on the upgrade.

all above is correct some do some dont depending on chipsets mainly but it is best to start clean in fact with drives so cheap I would go for a new drive as well

If his old hdd is working fine it would be a waste of money to buy a new one

depends on the drive and the new motherboard my last change of board had only 1 ide channel for 2 devices but 8 sata ports my optical drives needed the ide so a big and very cheap sata was called for allso he will probably need new ram and the old drive if ide would go ina usb external case howevr thats just my way hes may be different
