[SOLVED]Need help with my Apple Mac mini computer

October 6th, 2021

Hi guys.
A friend of mine gave me this Apple Mac mini 1.5 Core Solo
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac_mini_cs_1.5.html
The problem is the HDD died so he gave it to me to fix/use it.
After doing a little research online, I decided to upgrade the RAM(from 512MB to 2GB) with some RAM modules I had around the house AND I’m planning on upgrading the CPU too(from 1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo to 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 or bigger eg. 2.16GHz T7400 or 2.33GHz T7600)
I’m not planning on spending too much money on this so I’ll prolly go with the 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200…it’s ~20$(or if you think I’ll get more from upgrading to a better CPU lemme know).
This computer is gonna be used just “in case I need to run a program/Apple device” on a Mac !!!
I have a 160GB Apple HDD(formated on Win7) that I’ll be putting in this Mini so my questions are:
What’s the latest/most stable Apple OS that I can install on this MINI:
– 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
– 2GB RAM
– 160GB HDD
I mean, this is the first time I’ve owned an Apple computer and I know NOTHING about it.
I do know a few things when it comes to Win7 but I don’t think that’ll help me with this Apple computer.
So, if you feel like helping a brother out, please take a few minutes to clear some of these things for me.
Thanks a lot.

It’s kinda hard to believe that from all the MILLIONS of W-BB users, the isn’t a single one that can help me with this:

Out of those millions. Only about a hundred or so browse-read-answer. Out of those hundred. Only a few actually know the answer.
Not many have experience in Mac so its hard to actually answer. Why not just do a trial and error? Takes time but at least you know whats working and whats not x.x
Of course I know close to zero on Mac.

You will probably be limited to 10.6 I would safely say that, it’s a a early intel model and I know 10.4 is the farthest you can go on a g4 processor as 10.5 was for Intel based macs

Well from my online searches I noticed that 10.8 will not work on anything with an Intel GMA950 GPU so Mountain Lion it’s out of the question.
On the other hand I found that 10.7 Lion needs only this:

So even if my Mac Mini is a 2006 model(Core Solo and 512Mb RAM), I have upgraded to Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GB RAM !!!
This tells me the latest OS X I could run is 10.7 Lion.
The “PROBLEM” is I downloaded both Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and Lion 10.7.4 and I see there’s a big difference in size between these two OS.
The 10.6 is 6.5GB and the 10.7 is 4GB !!!!!!
Why i there such a big difference between these two OS ?!?!?!?
Cuz I’d like to do a fresh install of Lion on the new HDD but I don’t understand why is the Lion so much smaller than the Snow Leopard.
