Heres a step by step guide to changing what partition you will boot from. It says it’s for vista, but it’s pretty much the same for all.

windows 7 in c drive, xp in d drive.. no boot config file…
but there IS a system file named config in C drive.

I’m not sure how to do that with a PC. Mac’s have a specified key you press at startup for this, but I’m not sure if Windows have the same.

Why deal with any of that? Why not just always boot into windows 7, and have XP automatically start, so now you have windows 7 and windows XP running side by side. Never have to reboot to get into the other operating system, their both right there.
You should think about this…

well, because im unable to load windows 7, so i’m currently stuck with XP..
Answer #12
EasyBCD should be able to rebuild the boot menu

installing an older (XP) OS over a newer (7) caused the problem and your bootloader for 7 needs to be reinstalled

thank you all.. specially Nel… it worked…

You just cant boot into it because your boot loader is whacked. Do you have 4 GB or more of RAM? Do you have a 64 Bit system? If you wanna boot XP in a VM instead of dual boot, which I recommend, then you should wipe the HDD and install a fresh copy of Win 7 x64 SP1, then boot into that and install your XP via software like VMWare.
Answer #15
its working now buddy…. this PC has 1 gb+512mb RAM and 32 bit OS
its working now… no more solutions needed.. Easy BCD did the job
Answer #16
If you still have the Windows 7 installer DVD, just boot off that and perform a system repair. It will re-do the boot order for you.
