Solved: winRAR has permanently taken up 6GB of my space!

August 1st, 2016

So I was unextracting COD5, when I came up with an error: Not enough hard disk space, so then I went on to delete 5GB off my HDD. So then the unextraction kept going, till it came up with the error again, only this time “Extraction failed” or something. So then winRAR closes, but the problem is, the 5 gigs I’ve deleted has been taken up by winRAR, permanently.
In basic words:
I had 1GB
Started unextracting COD5
After 1GB was used up for temp files, it tells me that I have no room left
I delete 5GB of data, therefore I have 5GB free space
Unextraction continues
Unextraction says “Failed” and nothing becomes unextracted
The 5GB of free space I had is now gone
So now I’m left with 100 megs, and 5GB worth of data deleted. WTF did winRAR create that wasted like 6 gigs of my space? I really need help, I can’t even download a 100 meg file anymore….
BTW:
I’ve tried restarting my computer already, as well as shutting down, and etc. but to no avail.

Answer #1
go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp
where Administrator is your user name whatever it is, in there you should find a folder with your lost 5 gb. delete it

Answer #4
while extracting winrar creates temporary files… i think u broke the process before it finished.. so clean the temp file manually
Answer #5
just a small tip for future extractions, right click the file and click “extract to ‘name'” when extracting this way , winrar doesnt use the temp folder
