[Solved] Installing Windows 7 from XP!

August 6th, 2016

Hey all, I’m trying to install windows 7 over my XP so I can play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta more smoothly.
I have 2 partitions, 1 C and 1 D
C is Primary (has xp) 250 gig
D is Logical (used this for my downloads and games) 100 gig
I don’t know how to go about this properly. I know that I should boot from disk, but I don’t if I can install it on C or if I should do it on D, but if it’s on D then won’t my comp start up in XP? I must sound ~ censored ~, I just don’t want to screw my computer up and lose all my files. If someone can add me on msn and hold my hand it’d be great. I want to get rid of XP and replace it with Windows 7, but I don’t want to lose all of my files on that drive. Is this possible?
I have $9.xx AU on my paypal if someone can help me do this right I might just throw it your way as a thank you.
I’m trying to find [MF] links to get windows 7, so if you can help me with that it’d be great too! Thanks for any and all help

Here is what I would do in your situation:
Take the files you want to keep for backup and put them on D. Now when you go to install 7 install to drive C. You will come up to the drive selection window during the installation and it will allow you to format C so you can start fresh. (you cant miss it)
Then just go on with the installation and C will boot up automatically. This will work logically, but I also have the same setup and installed 7 on C leaving D for backup. Everything works fine, and you will enjoy 7. Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
edit: my msn is grgxbx360@hotmail.com if you want to add me.

Thank you, you make it seem so easy!
So all the stuff I want to keep, I have to copy to D
Does this include stuff that’s installed on C like say, Winrar for example. Do I just copy the whole folder to D?

You have to install the programs again in 7.
You can take a backup of their setups if you want.

That’s correct…Program and games should be reinstalled from scratch so they will work properly with the new Windows..
