August 5th, 2016

Hello folks,
I’m going to change my old Maxtor 500GB HDD with a new one..
I’m in dilema which one to chose betweem these two following HDDs:

  • Western Digital 750GB SATA2
  • Hitachi 750GB SATA2

Just tell me which one is better. – And please I need an urgent answer as I’m going to change this HDD tomorrow morning.
Thanks.
Answer #1
What are the reading speeds? If both have same read/write speeds than they are the same, sure different brand makes em. But that should not matter much unless brand is known for faulty drives. Hitachi and WD are well known brands. If you go with WD i suggest buying Warranty for it. You might need it. I dont fully trust WD anymore. Also why not go for 1TB?
Answer #2
Western Digital, they are dedicated at making hard drives and their ones run really cool and consumes less power. Hitachi’s are deemed to be noisy.
Answer #3
ALWAYS go WD for best performance/reliability. just be ready, hopefully not.. but be ready. HDS have a HUGE chance of coming DOA (dead on arrival)
Answer #4
i honestly don’t think it matters. i’ve had hundreds of hard drives, not even joking. seagates fail just as often as western digitals, as do hitachi’s, as do samsungs. if you want something good (performance), buy a SSD.
Answer #5
Go with what evers quickest or known to be quiet. Whatever it is that matter to you other than the hard drives capacity. Forget the reliability because you never know when a hard drive will die on you.
You should always have another hard drive (preferbly external) to back up all your stuff to.
Answer #6
Do yourself a favour get a 750 samsung sata2 with a 32bit cache.
Forget about the 1.5TB HD’s the performance is crap in comparison even with the same stats.
Hope this helps you out.

Okay guys, thanks for all your support – I bought the Western Digital 750GB and it works just fine still now, hope it keeps working like this.
Answer #8
I wouldn’t throw away your old one. I still use my IDE HDD for storage. Set it to secondary drive and store your on it so you don’t clutter up your system drive. All these are assuming you’re only using the new HDD.
