Skype on android 2.3

Hi,can anyone give me any idea how to get skype to work on 7 inch android 2.3.
i have it installed and works yet will only do voice and not video and has no option to select a video call.
the device has a front camera and works if you want to record video.
got device so my little girl can chat to mates without hogging the laptop.

when you say 7inch, assuming it’s an android tablet… if you could provide us more info such as the brand or the device model.. it will help us to advise more
