[REWARD] Help me build the best computer!

August 5th, 2016

If you are wondering why this changed, its because I’ve updated it. I changed my mind.
Ok, I need a computer that has specs to the max, the best performance and graphics and the latest of everything around. I just need a tower, nothing else, no external accessories. Max. 2000AU. I need this to last the life, not to run as fast as it could and then puff its lungs out.
I want everything in the tower, don’t forget things such as sound cards.
My requirements:
2 or more USB ports at the front
A nice looking but average case, not to the max, not made of cardboard
No flaps for the CD/DVD drives
2 DVDRW-DL burners and readers at the front
An extra blank slot at the front for in the future blue ray burner
Vertical tower – not horizontal
1 or more terabyte hard drive
No cheapy no-name brands
Good enough specs for GTA IV
optional – if there is enough money in the 2000 left:
blu-ray reader Please tell me the total price for the whole build
And please don’t go overboard, such as 10 terabyte hard drive or 5 Nvidia 9800GT.
Thanks for your help.
The 3 best computer builds that I shall find will be put on voting for 1 week in the Off-topic section, the one with most votes shall win a 1 month rapidshare account.
PS. You guys can argue on the prices and which components better. PPS. I am willing to shop around or buy online and not buy the thing in one spot.
PPPS. Please tell me the purpose for the computer, whether it is designed for gaming or developing or just general use.

Answer #6
Hey thats a great set you got but can you change the motherboard because I don’t really like the Asus brand mainly Gigabyte or some other brand, make sure its not one of those no-name’s.
And for the Video card isn’t the Nvidia better than the Radeon?
And I dont really need that much of a video card, because I don’t have a HDMI TV or any HD stuff. So have a look in the Nvidia and see which one of them works with the motherboard you picked.
Can you also make sure that everything fits together perfectly, as in the motherboard fits in the case and everything goes in place? And as far as I know, I dont think you can fit the fan in the case.
Answer #7
well so far the HD 4870 x2 is best out there. For the motherboard, i found this:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4P
http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwaveAU/productdetail.asp?CartID=mAU@14B3OU436MRVHQP135YHRMBYZFX1B8W6NN6DL4I4KWFW4Z&sku=28022787
$210
Answer #8
Yea, thanks for that, I’ll stick with Gigabyte. As for the video card, I’ve changed my mind to stick with Radeon. Thanks for your help.
Is there anyone who would like to submit a better computer build?

Answer #15
The parts in Uber Leet’s config is pretty good except that the memory is CL5. CL5 is for a regular office PC or something how can you build a gaming PC with CL5 memory I can’t understand. Also the stuff like the two DVD writers are not there
Anyhow this is what I came up with.
Image
All parts were taken from itsdirect.com.au after a bit of research

  1. Three Antec TriCool fans for cooling as the case comes with only one 120mm fan. The rest you got to buy separate
  2. Antec ATLAS Server Case. It says it’s a server case but can be used for general use as well. Comes with an excellent PSU and for the price I couldn’t resist. It’s not over the top looking either. It’s Antec and that’s enough said
  3. Corsair 4GB CL4 PC2-6400 memory kit. It’s Corsair, what more do you want?
Link to a review of that memory kit
    http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?/memory/corsair_xms2_dhx_pc2-6400_4gb_kit

  4. DFI LANPARTY P45 Motherboard. DFI is far from a cheap brand if you’re asking. It’s the brand preferred by many enthusiasts
Link to a review of that motherboard
    http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=873

  5. Gainward Golden Sample HD4870 1GB. The 4870 X2 is just too much. Something like that will be only needed if you need to game @ incredibly high resolutions (higher than 1920×1080). The regular 4870 is more than enough and it will eat up something like GTA IV or Far Cry 2 anyway. The 1GB model is a step up. It’s the best card out atm in my opinion and the Gainward Golden Sample is the best edition
  6. Core 2 Quad Q9550. Same as in Uber Leet’s config. It’s the best price/performance Quad core out atm
  7. 2 x Samsung DVD writers. Samsung is the best when it comes to optical drives
  8. Western Digital 1TB drive. You can get a Seagate if you want to. They are both pretty much the same in price/quality. I have a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB. It’s good too
  9. Xigmatek CPU Cooler. You can’t get enough cooling and the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is the best one out right now. I have the same thing (the regular not RS model). It’ll really extend the life of the CPU and will open you up to overclocking etc. Overclocking is completely safe especially with a cooler like this and the Corsair memory I’ve put above

Total price including freight = 2,003.79 AUD

In the meantime, anyone who would like to give me another build?
Answer #18
Why the heck do you need 8GB RAM that’s stupid. You’ll not use half of it. It’s a waste you should spend that money on something else
Also why the 9800GTX? The HD4850 is better. It has to be either the HD4850 or the HD4870. The Cooler Master PSU is not even 80% efficient. You can tell by the wattage and price that the price is too low. Cheap PSU’s like that will die out. It’ll be better if you pick a good quality 500W PSU instead of that one

True that the HD4850 is better, but its ATI, the past years, I have counted on Nvidia and I tend to stick with Nvidia, so thats why I’m making the change.
For the PSU, I don’t know an efficient one so can you suggest me a good quality and wattage PSU?
Answer #20
Well at least take out 4GB of RAM and spend it on a better graphics card. Something like a 9800GTX+ or GTX 260. The 9800GTX+ is better than the normal GTX
Here’s a good PSU
http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwaveAU/productdetail.asp?CartID=mAU@IBV2UTWDIM7HGRTVP7ID1PQ5OR1YNWEEW3CU8UBN5NUQ3R&sku=34040079
Another thing that’s worth mentioning is the fact that the Thermaltake Wing is a full tower. If your fine with the space it’s going to take and all then don’t worry about it. You should take note at it’s measurements and etc

Yea space is good for me. Is GTX260 better than the one i have atm?
Answer #22
Yes it’s definitely better. Even the 9800GTX+ is better than the regular 9800GTX. The HD4870 is better than the GTX 260 tbough (especially the 1GB model) but it’s up to you on that part.
It’s like this
9800GTX < 9800GTX+ =< HD 4850 < GTX 260 =< HD 4870 512MB < HD 4870 1GB
I would seriously go for an ATI if I were you. The ATI’s hold up a lot better with AA and AF enabled.
You have the money why not make the best use of it? Seriously take off that 8GB and just get 4GB. It’s enough. The only difference in performance you can achieve is by getting a higher speed memory kit. Speed isn’t only due to MHz either. You need to take note of the CL (case latency). The Corsair XMS2’s have a pretty good mix of the two.

I’m not sure, atm I’m getting the price and model number and then go bargain hunting.
I think I am downgrading GTX 280 to 260.
Before the downgrade it was 2.1k, after I will save 140so it will be around $1960.

well how much and where are you getting the 260 GTX? Theres a HD 4870 for $340 here:

it outdoes the 260 as ^l^ (aka Dr. Cool) said

My 260 is $310
but i like nvidia is better than Ati coz i heard a lot of people have trouble with ATI.
Answer #28
well if you put in the HD 4870 it will still be under the $2k range with $10 to spare. But im a proud ATI user and i havent had any problems so far, i dont see what problems ATI can cause. Their products seem reputable
Answer #29
Hmm, yeh, I think your right, I am upgrading to the HD 4870 x2 now. here is my build:
Note that can you please check if there is enough room to put the power supply in, i need this PSU because its certified for the HD 4870 X2. Can you also check if everything fits, ie. right slot, enough room, and/or too much or little space for the case.

Answer #31
It looks fine mate. Go for it
You could do with a couple of more case fans (as that graphics card is like a miniature factory) but it’s all good
Answer #32
Just found out the power supply doesn’t support my graphics card, here is my computer build again:

Answer #33
The EA650W would have worked fine. It can run anything and everything you could throw at it. No need to go for the 750W Thermaltake. Well it’s up to you anyway in the end
Answer #34
as i’ve said, i wanted it to last the time
so you’ve checked that everything works good?
Answer #35
Antec is a very reputable company and their EarthWatt series is their best. The durability difference is minimal
Why’d you change the memory to CL5? That’s a big performance hit. You should have kept with the OCZ Reaper
Answer #36
Yea of course the OCZ Reaper would be better but my motherboard didn’t support it, so I cant. But now I have changed my mind again! And came up with a dual channel RAM which should be faster. I have also changed my mind on the hard drive, the Western Digital only had 16mb cache, but this one has 32mb cache and its on special. So here is my new computer build:
GPU: Gecube HD4870X2 R700, 2GB GDDR5, D-Sub, Dual Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, HDCP, HDTV, Dual Slot Fansink, PCIe2.0 (GC-HD4870X2-G3)

Oh and btw, sorry for being fussy and keep changing my mind but will this configuration work well?
Also, if you are going to buy this computer, would you replace any parts and if so why?
Answer #37
well its better to stick with WD. The 16 and 32MB cache versions dont differ much from each other.
Answer #38
Yea of course the OCZ Reaper would be better but my motherboard didn't support it,
What the heck you talking about of course it will support it
I’m talking about this here
RAM: OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Also just because it says it supports DDR 800 only doesn’t mean it wont support DDR 1066. DFI makes the best overclocking boards around and I highly doubt it wont support. It’s like shooting yourself in the foot so to speak.
To be perfectly honest with you I wouldn’t get the 4870 X2. It’ll get outdated just the same with any other card. Why spend so much on a graphics card. I would just buy the regular 4870 1GB and spend the extra cash on getting a better case

Who cares, this thing is cheaper and has better specs .

Okay fine, managed to find a OCZ reaper hpc edition with 800 mhz.
But to save money I downgraded the power supply back to the antec one, but it only saved me about 30 dollars. :\
Btw, I kinda already like my current case.

Yep they’re all fine. You took out the CPU cooler though but it should do fine if you don’t overclock
