Request advice on free ebook reader software

June 19th, 2017

Hi friends,
My laptop recently crashed and all my programs got wiped out. Earlier I used to use Stanza for reading ebooks but that is no longer available.
I am an avid ebook reader. Most of the files are .epub, a few .mobi & pdfs. My laptop runs Windows 7 and I read mostly on this.
I Googled this subject and it appears that Calibre is the most popular. However I don’t want anything heavy – I would prefer a light program which does not hog system resources. Request advice / suggestions on which is the best free ebook reader software to go in for. Thanks in advance

Sumatra PDF

For ePUB – FBReader, really light software. But calibre is daddy of all if you want to read on PC/Mac. It’s heavy because the experience it gives is rich. Also you can convert to various other formats.

Sumatra is definitely light-weight; unfortunately it doesn’t allow for bookmarking etc. Now if it did
Calibre really is the standard and you can get a portable version of it so that you can stick it on a USB stick and take it on the go. It doesn’t ‘hog resources’ either – far less than what your browser is probably using right now.
If you want to try something else (as you do), this one is ok. Works but without any bells & whistles.

IMO, Calibre is really the only option
Nothing else comes close, and with plugins it can convert different formats
