Replacement for a faulty 8800gts

My graphics card is going faulty which is a 1GB 8800gts, now i dont play alot of games im currently playing BF3 and next up is COD MW3.
Should i get another 8800GTS ive been looking but a 1GB version is hard to find. Would there be a major drop in FPS if i was to get a 640Mb?
Would a GeForce GTS 250 be alright ?
Or unless you guys can suggest another model thats right for a on/off gamer.
