Reformat computer and reinstall xp

August 6th, 2016

Could someone tell me in step by step instructions exactly how to format my computer correctly and reinstall xp. I thought it was about time to format as I have never done it in 3 years. I created a recovery dvd when I bought the computer can I use that to reinstall xp or I have compaq system recovery where it says it returns the computer to its factory settings. Would this be the same as reformatting it and reinstalling xp? Basically a bit of a quicker method would be helpful. Thanks

It’s very straightforward but if you want a guide this one seems to be decent:

Good luck mate ^_^

That is a pretty good guide. Just a couple of points though: My harddrive is partitioned into c and d, d being 6 gb and containing recovery files. Would this be where xp is installed or would it be on my c drive which is the one i want to format. Also as i only have the recovery disc not an xp disc would this be enough to reinstall xp. Or even better do you think I could just use the recovery wizard that came with my omputer to use my restore disc to restore the computer to factory settings. This would be effectively formatting it wouldnt it?

You’ll need to install Windows on partition C but you have several options:
1. Restore your computer to factory condition by using the already made recovery partition.
2. Format partition C and install XP onto it
3. Format the entire HDD and create the partitions that you want it to have. Then just use a software such as Norton Partition Magic to create a new and updated Recovery Partition.
I would probably choose the third one but that’s just because I like to be in full control of my PC. Good luck mate ^_^

Basically I just want to format my pc to get rid of all the junk on it and start afresh. Just to check restoring it to factory condition would do this wouldnt it? Then again formatting partition C and installing xp onto it looks pretty good as I could get hold of a better copy of xp than what i currently have: xp home edition SP2. I will have to think about it. Thanks for your help. =D

Restoring your computer to factory condition with the recovery partition will do just what you’re planning, however, I still stand by what I said. I would rather format my entire HDD and create a new recovery partition myself. Good luck mate ^_^
