Recommendation for dvd burning software

August 8th, 2016

Hi everyone
I am looking for software to download online that burns dvds with video/audio downloaded from the internet. I know there are many programs out there however there is one (or possibly more than one now) that I used about 10 years ago. It was freeware back then and it basically stretched out the max time of the dvd beyond 2 hours. Most blank dvds have a 2 hour max written on the discs. However this program (i forget the name) extended that restriction to 3 and sometimes 4 hours. When i burned these dvds 10 years ago about 25% of the time they failed and I had to start over with a new disc however it was worthwhile in the end because I managed to fit more on each disc however the quality suffered on some of the content others were kept at original quality. So long story short my question is do you remember the name of this program or any similar? In case it’s not longer a good idea to stretch dvd space and time would you like to recommend your favourite dvd burner (freeware)? Thank you

Might it have been ConvertXtoDvd? Never was free, but cracked versions were widely available.

Yes, if you want something that works without mucking up, use ConvertXtoDvd.
Burn at about x4 speed and use good quality disks like Verbatin..

Freemake video converter is another one that can make DVDs…
But if you think about downloading it, beware of all the crap they try and get you to download and install with it!!!
(Always do a custom instal).

Or use a portable version like i do. But to give you some info on your post, no program can extend amount of time a dvd holds. Time stated for dvds are for dvd quality. The way you get more on it is by reducing quality. Dvds can only hold so much data, so by reducing quality, it just means you can store more on it. It’s no different that using a pvr, record at highest quality and you’ll fit so much on it’s hard drive, go for worst quality and you’ll get far more in that same space. Freemake will also extend time, as you’ve put it, but at loss of quality.

I use 3 different software.
DVD Shrink – Free used to remove protected dvds.

Cyberlink Power2Go – to burn.

WINAVI Video Converter – to convert any format to DVD not the all in one Unless you want that one.
Never have let me down.

Hey guys i do not have good news to report i downloaded a few programs, AVStoDVD, DVDflick, and ConvertXtoDVD (which wasn’t freeware so i uninstalled it). The first two programs encoded and authored the dvd files (Video_ts, Audio_ts) but didn’t continue to burn it to the disc. It left that up to me so I just burned the 2 folders as data using windows. Of course it plays on my laptop but since the point of all of this was to watch it on television my task has failed as neither disc is playable. It shows disc error on the TV. My question is this an issue of compatibility on my player or a software issue? I used all default settings and my dvd player plays other dvds I have burned in the past using programs I have long since forgotten the names of but these recent programs have produced discs that don’t work.

It’s your player, as some won’t play dvds burnt as data. Are you ripping dvds or are you downloading movies from here. If ripping dvds then use dvdfab, that will rip and burn in one go. If you’re downloading movies from here, or wherever and getting mp4’s, avi’s or mkv files then use freemake converter, as that will convert and burn in one go so can be watched on any player. I’m not sure if they do the ts files you have, but you can try, just download freemake, and add the ts video file to it and see if it can play through it, just click edit and when it’s screen comes up and if it shows an image it means it works. You don’t need the audio part as that’s always empty anyway. Then just click on dvd option and it will convert and then burn to make a dvd watchable on tv

Maybe they should try on a freeware forum…
We are only trying to help here with an efficient solution
Answer #10
Yes i’m trying to help too. Just because this is a doesn’t mean everyone wants to use cracked software, they may just be here for movies or tv. I only mentioned it as they stated they deleted ConvertX because it wasn’t freeware.
Answer #11
well then they can still use the first 2, if they’re freeware and get around the “no burning” with IMGBurn. That itself is also freeware and can detect a dvd structure and make changes to the burn settings if needed to allow for playback on a standalone. Other than that ConvertXtoDVD is the way to go.
Answer #12
FreeMake burns, so that would do on it’s own, and Freeware, so meets requirements
