Raspberry PI for XBMC help needed

January 23rd, 2020

Hi,
ive never had one of these before but wanting to get one and install either raspbmc or openelec on it.
anyone else this setup?
Questions: appreciate it if anyone can answer these.
* How smooth does it run / what size files can it handle
Its mainly gonna be used for MKV blu ray rips – size 3 GB max.
Im wanting it wireless, and also wanting to use some sort of remote but unsure what i need, can anyone recommend parts needed
Thanks in advance

I got the Raspberry Pi Model B and I’ve installed openelec. I use it only to play 720/1080 MKV movies downloaded from WBB and it is really smooth, no problems, no lag. Mine is right by the router, so i just used an ethernet cable to connect it (save me buying an wireless adapter). I’m sure it’ll work fine with any decent wireless adapter. I think I’ve used the SMB share to view all the movies on my main desktop. First sync took some time, 600+ movies and all the meta data. For the remote, I just bought a mini wireless keyboard/mouse from eBay, probably the same size a galaxy note. I’ve tried the android app and that works, but i find it a bit unresponsive at times. I found mine heated up a bit if I left it on too long, so I bought some heatsinks from eBay and mini cooling fan.
