Problems playing videos encoded by TLA group
October 25th, 2013
The only problem I ever have is when trying to play x264/720p video files that have been encoded by TLA group. All other 720p videos by all the other groups (LOL, Immerse, ASAP, Dimension, thebox.hannibal, Flipper, 2hd…. you name it) play with no problems whatsoever. However with TLA’s releases when I open the file, it will open wmp or divx plus player but the program just sits there without even an error code. The file just does not play. At all.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a codec, or different software I could download, that will enable me to play TLA’s 720p files? Or if there is a way to get a message to them to say they must be doing something differently with their encoding, that makes only their videos not play when everything else runs fine? (Like maybe there’s a check box they’ve missed on their encoding software or something lol)
Thanks for reading, I hope someone is able to help me in this predicament.
try these 2 players. i use them both

The Directshow codecs you are using are the problem. They are not suitable for general use. WMP 12 is pretty terrible as well IMO but if you like using it then at least get some better codecs.
A general, play most stuff, codec is ffdshow, it will decode most common forms of video and audio. All that is needed as well are any needed splitters such as Haali MKV Splitter. ffdshow and Matroska splitter should play most formats such as MKV (H.264/AVC) and XVid (Mpeg 4 ASP), Mp4 (audio/video) and many other forms of audio and video with a few minor exceptions. CoreAVC with Matroska splitter which is built into the install would playback H.264/AVC video and is the most efficient codec if your system is borderline when playing back HD material. Otherwise ffdshow is the best cure all for missing codecs and is very versatile.
You could use a Media Player with inbuilt codecs such as KMPlayer or Pot Player. Avoid installing any large codec packs because they are usually more than is needed and only bloat windows and cause conflicts.
I use these, get either the generic build for 32 bit windows or the 64 bit build for a x64 system.

This is essential for mkv files.

That’s awesome! Thanks so much for the help . As it turned out, I already had ffdshow installed, I’d just forgotten it was related to codecs/video playback :s lol. It was downloading the Matroska Splitter that did the trick. I’m still amazed that it was only one groups releases that this affected, but am sooo thankful I’ve finally got the problem resolved!
Thanks again!
I think it might be best to uninstall DivX Plus and check the ffdshow video decoder settings to make sure they are setup to play the formats that you want, because by default most things are not enabled. In the Codecs tree item on the left, enable everything that you need. You should check the same in the audio decoder settings as that will be the same, most will be unselected.
With most or all of those selected, ffdshow will be able to play almost all audio/video formats. Getting the latest ffdshow would provide wider support and improved optimizations for newer CPU’s. There is also some video card decoding support in newer builds.
Then any Directshow media player you want to use will be able to play most file formats. Rmvb and quicktime are not (well) supported by ffdshow so if you want those you will need additional codecs such as the quicktime lite and realmedia codecs.

I know VLC removes the need for any manner of codec pack, but CCCP is still a legit project if you (for whatever reason) don’t want to use VLC.

TL:DR; BEST CODEC PACK EVER.
