Phishy Apple Email

August 25th, 2013

Had an email from do_not_reply@apple.com, which I’ve since googled and found to potentially be dodgey address.
It says:
Dear Mark Brown,
Your Apple ID, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, was just used to purchase Piggy Jailbreak from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.
If you made this purchase, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not make the purchase yourself.
If you did not make this purchase, we recommend that you go to iforgot.apple.com to change your password, then see Apple ID: Tips for protecting the security of your account for further assistance.
Regards,
Apple
So that isn’t my name which makes me more suspicous. But link is to the apple site not one with a dodgey url, it is literally iforgot.apple.com
I went onto Itunes and changed my password from there just in case. I also noticed there are no purchases so unless this is some kind of pre-email and one with phishing links will follow I’m puzzled

iforgot.apple.com is an official system by Apple, so don’t worry about it. As you’ve changed your password by now you should be alright. Don’t worry.

I’ve just realised what has happened!
It is a genuine apple email, but to an old .googlemail account I hadn’t used in years and forgot the random details I had used to create it.
Because google doesn’t differentiate between .gmail and .googlemail all the emails come to the same place but I have two apple ID’s
Luckily, I haven’t put any credit card details on the old one either as I only use the store when I get gift cards for christmas
