old laptop witch windows….?

got a old dell laptop running windows xp but slow as its only 851 intel processor and 128 mb of ram so thinking of putting an older windows on like 2000 or ME, witch one should i use??

Well you could put XP if its a ripped version in my siggy i have links to TinyXP it comes with several versions meant for low end PCs. Its possible to have XP run fine on 128MB of RAM but then you would only be running one program at a time, Windows 2000 uses slightly less RAM than XP. NEVER USE WINDOWS ME that OS is crap its unfinished its like a beta version of Windows so buggy.
There is Mac Puppy Linux looks niice and on default idles at 20MBs of RAM usage

TinyXp for sure would help
MicroXP is another option, more stripped out than TinyXP but it uses less resources
