New Nintendo 3DS XL Flash Card

February 3rd, 2020

Hello Yall, I’m currently browsing for best offer on this console as an xmass gift. Sadly I do not earn too much cash and living in poland games and consoles are rather pricey so instead of buying games I’m considering a flash card.
I checked some info and it seems new xl model is supported. However back in the day when I had my GBA I did not have such invention, hell I did not even have an internet connection so I have no experience in the matter. Thus my question to yall is it worth it and if it is which one should I choose? From ones I can get my hands on right away I found Supercard DSTWO to be the cheapest, 3DS Link a little more costly but looking more solid and GATEWAY 3DS being most pricey (like 3x price of Supercard or 2xLink) so positively best … ? Thats the thing I have no clue. Please be so kind to advise me on this, hesitating for obvious reasons I mean on one side opportunity of never having to buy a game again and on the other risk of it not working and thinking “damn … I could have actually bought a game or two for this money instead”.
P.S For those wondering why I won’t just buy console + some cheap, crappy game, bag it and call it a day well receiver is my other half so in case of fail it’s gonna backfire at me anyway

If you buy a new 3ds XL it will almost certainly be on a firmware above 9.2, which means Gateway 3ds won’t work as its only for firmware 9.2 and down. 9.2 firmware is over a year old and a subsequent firmware released for 3ds by Nintendo last December blocked the exploit that Gateway uses to allow you to play back ups.
The only flashcart that will work on a newly bought 3ds XL/ a 3ds XL with firmware 9.3 and up, is Sky3DS, which works with all 3ds firmwares. The only issue with Sky3DS is that Nintendo recently released new anti piracy checks and some more recent games like Animal crossing happy home designer and Legend of Zelda Triforce Heroes + a few others have this protection and will not work with the Sky3DS cart, but everything bar about 10 more recent 3ds games work fine with Sky3DS.
The two cards you mention, Supercard DSTWO and 3DS Link; the SC DS2 is a card for the original DS and only allows you to play DS roms on a 3ds, not 3ds roms, and 3DS Link can only play 3DS roms on firmware below 4.5 and no games released in the last 2 and a half + years will work.

Much appreciated Purity, good thing I asked. I think I will go with your cue and buy Sky3DS, for starters I’ll get pokemons and few earlier games and on next pay maybe buy one or two game that are not supported or maybe some update will be developed. Could you please take a look and verify will this one I found be ok? http://allegro.pl/sky3ds-rev-2-nagrywarka-3ds-10-3-bez-limitu-i5796876798.html
Sry it’s in polish, I would rather save myselph shipment from other country. Seller points to instruction on sky3ds.com and says it will work on soft 10.3.0-28 and earlier.

If you want to play GBA and NDS on a 3DS then the SuperCard Two is brilliant.
If you want to play 3DS games they have a new card that does just that… the SuperCard Twp Plus. Can’t comment of that one, I don’t have a 3DS.

Yes, that’s correct. Don’t forget that you’ll also need a micro SD card. Sandisk or Samsung class 10 cards are the best, others can have issues working with Sky3DS.
You should also consider joining 3DSISO for the ROM downloads and also because it has a thread in the Sky3DS section that tells you which recent games are affected by the new AP checks. Good luck!

SuperCard Two Plus is basically a Gateway clone that uses the Gateway launcher exploit to allow you to play 3ds backups, and as such only works on 3ds firmware 9.2 and down. Also, Gateway previously released an update that bricked peoples consoles when they tried to update their cloned cards, so there might be risk in using a Gateway clone.
