Need USB Wi-Fi Gigabit Dongle?

August 7th, 2016

Hi,
So I have 50mpbs broadband and it’s great, but I wish to upgrade to 100mpbs. I did but because I’m on a laptop as of now my built in network card can’t handle 100mpbs. I was told I need a gigabit capable card, I will soon have my PC in my room.
Now wired works fine but the way my house is built is the router is in my lounge and my computer is in my room. So the only way I could get a cable up there is to drill all the way up into my room which is pretty much impossible. So do I need a usb dongle, network card or usb with a built in antenna. Or is it impossible without going wired? I’ve seen people on wireless getting over 100mpbs so I know it’s possible, at least I hope!
Thanks!

I use this one and get the 866Mbs. The top speed will depend on what router you have (I use a Asus rt-ac68u).

I have the standard virgin media superhub
Answer #3
The virgin media superhub supports Wireless N – so you should get able to get 300Mbps. It unfortunately does not have the 5th gen technology, probably because these routers tend to cost 4x more than the standard one
The asus adapter I linked to will do the job for you. Mind you, any USB adapter with Wireless N support will work as well. 300 < 1000 so there is more of a compromise in speed, but that is the trade-off when going wireless I’m afraid.
Answer #4
Sorry it’s the second superhub with 5ghz support
Answer #5
Wireless b, g, n capable in 2.4GHz band plus wireless a, n & ac in 5GHz band (Dual-concurrent frequencies)
If this is the one, you theoretically can get up to 1300mpbs. Again, the ASUS adapter I linked to does the trick.
The key is that the dongle MUST BE AC compatible.
