need help with ftp

I cant seem to connect to my ftp on my cpanel. i put in the server which is ftp.name.com my username which is username@name.com and my password but error. Can anyone help me?
It says Status:Connection established, waiting for welcome message… then says could not connect to server

Delete your cache. Restart. Try a piece of software such as “FileZilla” with port 21. Then contact your host.
