If you can’t get a computer to recognize the hard disc at all, then you are SOL, unless you want to pay lots of money for a data recovery company to recover the data for you.
There is a few tricks to get crashed hard drives back to life., but they don’t always work.
First you should rule out any other possibility besides an actual failure of the drive such as software, cables, etc. Run the drive diagnostics program from the manufacturer and test the drive to see what errors you get. It should be able to tell you if it is a minor error or a major one. If the hard drive is not spinning up at all, clicking or making other funny sounds then the drive itself is truly bad.
Then, try flipping the drive upside down. Sometimes this changes the drive geometry enough to get it working for awhile.
Another thing to try is freezing the drive. It sounds strange, but it works sometimes. The cooling causes the parts inside to shrink slightly, changing the drive geometry. Stick it in the freezer for a few hours, then pull it out and see if you can access it. You probably won’t have long before it stops working again, so be sure to figure out what is most important and transfer those files first.
Don’t do this if the drive is still under warranty and you plan on using that warranty to get a new free drive from the manufacturer, as the warranty will be void if you freeze it.
Good luck!
Answer #2
If once i freeze the hard disk. After i pull it out of the freezer, how will the people know that i had frozen it? So how will they know that the warranty is void ?
Answer #3
It’s up to you. They may not notice. I’m just giving you fair warning that freezing your hard drive does void the warranty.
Answer #4
Anyone else knows anything about recovering data???
Answer #5
You should be sensible about this. When your hard disk is under warranty period then you can directly go to the manufacturer and post a complaint that you had very important data in your hard drive and you need to recover them. You trusted that company so you purchased it. Then if you say so, they will definitely find out some solutions for recovering your data as well they will compensate for their bad service.
You can also use the technique that gave you. But take a little precaution and put your hard drive in some kind of bag and then insert it into your freezer. Then your hard drive will be secure and your data might be saved.
If you are very much sensible about your hard drive then you should go for the manufacturer or some hardware engineers.
