Looking for software to add tracks to an audio file

August 14th, 2013

I have an audio book – 4 hrs on 1 file. Was wondering if anyone knew if there’s any software that would add tracks like every 5 minutes or so? I can do it in Sound Forge but it would take days to divvy it up that many times. I did a google and got nada. Others have asked the same question and never gotten a good answer.
Can’t help but think there’s something more automatic out there.

Hi handyguy7
You do not say what format your audio book is e.g. WAV, MP3 etc, so this is a shot in the dark…
I think you might be looking for software that is capable of either ‘auto-chaptering’ or ‘audio file splitting’. In other words, it will chop up a single file into 5- or 10-minute chunks (or at 2-second silence breaks) and treat them as separate tracks.
If that is the case, try something like NCH Slice Audio File Splitter, which is freeware and works only on audio files. You could also try Ulead DVD Workshop, which is a DVD authoring software with an auto-chapter feature for video files. It might be able to handle pure audio files as well.
Hope that helps

Sorry….it is an mp3 file.
Thank you very much – I will try this ASAP!
