linux 5 help needed

I am creating a new linux 5 machine to be used as a proxy server in college lab environment of 300+ PCs
how do i convert .TAR file into RPM package. to further my installation which is now stuck

I’m not sure someone would pick you to install anything on a college lab, but the things I’ve seen people do 😛 Your answer could be easily answered by using a search engine, duckduckgo is my favourite.

Linux 5 does not exist. Are you using Centos 5? Red Hat Linux 5? Debian 5? Linux 5 doesn’t exist, didn’t exist and most probably won’t exist.

If the .tar contains a source code of a program, then the RPM may be the right thing but if it’s an archive containing data, then this is not the best thing to do…
