Letter from internet provider for pirating

August 5th, 2016

I got a letter from Wild Blue saying that they received a letter from some agency for downloading aoeHD via bit torrent. Age of Empires HD.
I thought that Bit Torrent used something to keep the user private?
If not is there anyway to download files privately?
I don’t know if they are going to act on this…
It looks like it is just a warning…
Anyone have information on this?
Thanks!

dunno how its in ireland (im assuming by your banner) but usually the problem is not the down- but the uploading. downloading files are, unless you “hacked” into somewhere, in most cases in a gray area. it has to be proven that you could not possibly have downloaded a certain file without knowing it comes from an illegal source. same with streaming.
now for torrents: problem is that your not only downloading the files but at the same time youre uploading them or at least chunks which means you yourself become a provider in the eyes of the law which…well, bad. if there not acting on this warning count yourself lucky bc a lot of corporations and even more law firms are making a living of those “settlements” asking for completely unreasonable compensation.
my advice: unless you know how to cover your tracks or know a trustworthy source for torrents. stay clear of them
Answer #3
Change ISP’s, and ignore it.
When you use torrents then you MUST use OpenVPN with a good VPN provider to protect yourself.
Go the easy route and stick to http downloads – no more letters.

Maybe use TPB’s own Firefox based web browser (TOR enabled) to get around the censorship?
Answer #7
if it came in an email ignore it, it’s a hoax
isp’s will formally write to your home address to warn you about any breach of terms of service, they will NOT do it by email (as that would be outside of THEIR terms and conditions)

No they do it. They did it to a friend of mine once. Comcast actually emailed him with all the info at the time of downloading. Warning him and crap.
@, I am guessing Wild Blue is an ISP? Ignore the letter/email. The best they can do is terminate your internet and you paid all the fees of the process/contract.

That’s why you don’t use public trackers…
Answer #11
Is there any way this could happen by downloading from file hosts? (rapidgator/uploaded)

Of course not, direct downloading is one of the safest ways, multiple times safer than torrents.
