LED TV
July 31st, 2013
I don’t know a lot about LED TVs so any info, advice etc. would be welcomed. I’m after a set thats sized around 42″. I’m not after the best but not the worst, something in between that wont cost a lot.
As mentioned I’d appreciate any advice, links to UK based sites selling cheap decent sets with warranty, security etc.
cheers
What’s your budget?

Just very quickly looked on Hughes.

For £500 you should be able to get a 40/42″ LED TV made by LG or Samsung, Panasonic would be about £550.

Read their extended guarantee.
Try and find one with a Freeview HD tuner because not all have that and it would mean getting a separate tuner box if you want to watch that.
If you find a suitable model, search the following forum for it and read what people think about it. Some TV’s are prone to certain problems and you will know what to look out for with the model you want to purchase. With Richer sounds you can see if before purchase which can help.

heads spinning. i’ve asked for help on av cheers mate. i did get a few heads pointing me in the direction of richersounds. i did a review search and of course come across bad reviews, poor customer service etc. but then again those who are sateisfied are probably sitting watching progs on their sets not on the net posting comments.
opted for this..

I’ve read and been told media format support is limited so linking a PC with third party software will be an advantage. sound wont be all that so I’m looking to get a surround system. haven’t brought a dongle yet, may just get Samsungs unless the third party option is more appealing.. undecided tbh.
Search the following forum for the model number to see what owners think about it and any problems to watch out for. Then go along and have a look at it in JL.

If it has a freeview hd decoder then it can play H.264 video so I would be surprised if it didn’t at least offer Mpeg4 AVC video support.for media playback. However many TV’s don’t offer much in the way of media support and it might be worth considering a standalone media player.
That’s a good choice. Samsung’s play most files using its Mediaplayer. And if it doesn’t play something there’s usually a way round it.
the brand software media support sucks. TVersity, Mezzmo is an option
