Is my CPU core voltage too low?

November 6th, 2013

from my understanting, the i7 CPU’s don’t like voltages under 1.25 volts, i have read/heard this from many sources, is it correct? why is my i7 950 running on an average Core voltage of 0.95 volts?
anyone out there with a stock clocked i7 950? post your voltages please?
i have been having random shutdowns lately and i can’t find anything to explain it except this, or i’ve completely destroyed a component from overclocking incorrectly.
link to my CPUID results below.
EDIT: sorry, i forgot the rules about double posts. now i can’t find the delete button..

I’ve coded the link(s) for you this time – if you don’t know how to do it, please check the sticky thread in the helpdesk section.

It’s just LLC/vdroop. It’s normal for high heat leakage batches to show lower than average volts but higher temperatures. My i7 is pretty similar and I run mine at 4GHz. Quit worrying too much. If you need more info I can give you some sources.

i had mine around 4.5 (have a noctua NH-D14) and temps were fine, voltages seemed okay, whole system was stable (i thought) but recently my system has been losing power after maybe half an hour to 3 hours? it’s weird, eventlog just states that it was shutdown unexpectedly..

What’s your i7 batch number? It can be found on the box near the bar code. If the computer works fine at stock then your overclock is not stable. Get fixing it.
and temps were fineOf course they would be fine. Just higher than average. It’s a high heat leakage batch.

i don’t have the box anymore, anywhere i can find it?
yeah the shutdowns started happening when it was overclocked, then i clocked it down but they still occur. i probably damaged something but i don’t know what..
the main reason for this thread was because i wasn’t sure of the stock voltages were high enough.

Nah.

Corsair TX750W.. i believe it is the problem, because it emits a high frequency type sound, mustn’t be good?

Could be a capacitor, not a good sign.

Or just coil whine. It’s pretty common in PSUs even good ones.

My 920 DO (same chip as 950 but different multi) Runs fine 3.8 @ 1.2v any higher it needs bumped up though.

if anything i’m hoping it’s a capacitor, they’re easy to replace!
what about coils though, how hard are they to find/replace?
