Answer #1
This is probably because of Bad Sectors. Run a ‘chkdsk’ and defragment your drive. ISO’s are normally huge files and could have spread onto the sectors that might have later gone bad. Tell me if it helps.
Answer #2
It could mean that parts of the disk are simply unreadable. (bad blocks)
You could also try the HDD regenerator on Hiren’s.
It might or might not be able to fix bad blocks, (at least it might fix them for long enough to get your files.)
Answer #3
right dug old pc out of the loft set it up runing HDAT2 cheking for bad sectors now hmmm goning to take a while once sectors go bad dose the problem keep comeing back on the drive Question
[EDIT] this prog is going mad Uncorrectable CRC or ECC error on read ???
Answer #4
Yeah, so you do have bad blocks then.
Sometimes they are recoverable sometimes not, and it does take long time.
Blocks which are recovered do frequently go bad again after a while.
You can still get the files off using ‘unstoppable copy’, but if they are software files they’ll almost certainly be unusable.
Answer #5
I think he can safely use Unstoppable Copier, considering they are ISO files. They should be fine.
Answer #6
Yeah he can use it, but the files may very well be corrupted beyond any hope of being any use.
If really lucky the corruption might be in some unimportant part of the iso, but it’s just as likely that some part of the executables will have been turned into random gibbersh.
