Internet problem
October 2nd, 2013
so i have a problem.
its about my internet, im trying to figure out if the problem is with
the modem router or my internet connection.
basically when im on my ps3, and someone goes on the laptop or another wireless desktop
i lag alot. even though they are just browsing google.
my friends say that they can play ps3 with others on the computer
completely fine.
so im guessing the problem is my modem router.
i just wanted to ask you guys if im right.
extra info
my download speed is 1.4mb/s
router is thomson – tg585v7
if any other info is needed just ask.
please help
are you using wireless on the laptop and the ps3. ive had a connection to lag when more then 1 wireless device is connected to the router.
oh, everything is wireless. ps3, laptop and computer.
try using 2 of them wired and see if the problem persists
Had same problem,is connection
Maybe call your ISP to see if they can solve the problem for you. They should be able to tell you why you’re having this issue.
Is that 1.4mb/s megabytes or megabits? May want to check your router settings to make sure it’s broadcasting in b/g/n with the fastest mode possible (some are at 54mbps when they can go up to 150 or even 300mbps) and set to a static channel (like 6 or 11). A static channel is useful to prevent having the channel constantly changing whenever interference comes along. Another user hooking up a laptop may cause some interference that causes the wifi to constantly drop and reconnect, but it occurs so fast it can seem to just be laggy.
its megabytes, and i have it set to a static channel. and i think its the fastest mode possible.
my main concern is that my friends can play without lag, while i cant.
also when i say lag i mean like i freeze for a few seconds.
sometimes even disconnect from the server.
Might be worth while to swap your modem with the isp and get your own separate router.
It’s more than likely your connection if you are getting the issue on both wired and wireless connections.
Try checking/changing if possible your wiring setup, and get your ISP to change your profile and/or run line tests.
On wireless, avoid channels 1, 6, and 11, everyone uses them
1/6/11 are common but overlapping is not a problem. Additionally, they are channels proven to be reliable and experience less interference. And even if overlapping were a problem and even if “everyone” used them, the likelihood of all of his surrounding neighbors using the same one of those 3 channels is quite slim.
Additionally, he stated that he’s getting 1.4MB/s. I don’t know what his speed should be, but I know that that is plenty fast enough to play a game online as well as browsing the internet without any lag. It’s not a line problem with the coax, it’s something with the wireless gateway.
1.4 download? whats your upload speed? please do a speed test from your pc on here and post results:
www.speedtest.net
If he said he’s getting 1.4MB, what’s the point in disputing that? I don’t think it’s a number he made up.
okey the download is 1.4 but whats the upload? it is practicaly more important…

my upload isn’t that good, like 80KB/s. but that shouldnt mean there that much lag really.

ok ill try put the ps3 and the laptop on wired and see if the problem still occurs.
okay guys so i tried a few different scenarios
ps3 wired and laptop wired = no lag (while playing youtube videos on laptop and cod on ps3)
ps3 wired and laptop wired = lag (when cod on ps3 and speedtest on laptop)
ps3 wired and laptop wireless = no lag (while playing youtube videos on laptop and cod on ps3)
ps3 wired and laptop wireless = lag (when cod on ps3 and speedtest on laptop)
ps3 wireless and laptop wireless = no lag while playing youtube videos on laptop and cod on ps3)
ok i know that i wrote that there was no lag when both are wireless, this is usually not the case. usually there is enough lag to make it hard to play properly. this result is probably different because the modem router was like 30 cms away from both the ps3 and laptop. normally it would be about 10-15 metres away.
So im guessing the problem i have is that because the ps3 and laptop are normally far away, and they are both on wireless it lags, because the connection is not strong enough for both of them???

You should try living here in London UK especially on 2.4 GHz, each channel will also overlap the one each side.
I have to use IEEE_802.11n (300 Mbps), which overlaps about 5 channels, thank goodness for 5Ghz
so any idea about my problem?
