installing tomtom 7 on Samsung Omnia mobile phone WM 6.1

January 26th, 2020

Hi Guys,
I am having problems getting Tomtom to work on my Omnia. I have managed to install the app, but i am getting problems getting a signal. The error I get is “poor signal, are you inside..?” I have set up my external gps to use port 3 and also configured tomtom to do the same, using the buad rate = 4800.
I am also having problems installing the voices, any ideas.
The Samsung uses Windows mobile 6.1, I have been on google all day and still havent been able to find a resolution.
Cheers,

Hi ,
At the present moment I haven’t got an Omnia, although I am very tempted to get one as it looks a nice piece of kit. I have been browsing the net, reading reviews and getting general info about the phone, during this I read about getting Tom Tom to work on the Omnia.
As I haven’t got an Omnia, I have not tried this, so cannot give you 100% what works or doesn’t but:
Some say that you can get Tom Tom 7 working on the Omnia by using a program called GPSGate, you can get this app from this very site:
http://www.google.com?t=848058&highlight=
I have also found this video on YouTube that shows you how to set up GPSGate and Tom Tom 7 for the Omnia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiVP9aNO7t8
Others say that Tom Tom 7 works fine without GPS Gate, and that you use the following settings:
In Tom Tom 7 GPS option use ‘Other NMEA GPS’ with a baud rate of 4800 on COM3.
I do However think that this may depend on the Firmware of the Omnia, as at present (as its new), I think that various updates (firmware), are coming out pretty frequent.
I hope this helps.

Hi , try this: install Gpsgate on Omnia. Open Settings and set COM3+9600 as Input and Virtual COM4 as Output. In TomTom7 open GPS configuration, set Other NMEA device and Fronson COM4. Believe or not, it works in my Omnia. JN
