I can’t edit the host file

i’ve already unckecked read only
os: win 7

Run Notepad as admin, File > Open, C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc.

Follow these step:
1. Copy the host file from its location in ‘C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc’ folder to the desktop.
2. Open the copied file on the desktop with notepad and edit whatever you want to.
3. save it by pressing ctrl+S
4. Close the notepad when saved.
5. Copy the ‘hosts’ file from the desktop which you edited using notepad and paste it into ‘C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc’ and select copy and replace.
6. Done!

Yup – I was just going to post that method – it’s something to do with it being in registered ‘system’ folder..
