how to UNINSTALL windows vista on dual boot machine?

January 23rd, 2020

Hi guys, I have XP and Vista dual booted. So when I turn on my comp I can choose to start either XP or Vista.
My question is how do i uninstall vista? i have vista on disk e, xp on disk c. Do I just format disk e and Vista is deleted? Or do I have to do something else?
Thanks.

That will def get rid of vista. not sure if anything will be in your registry or not I dont think they share the same reg. I have it dual booted too and I dont know if I like the lite version! goodluck on this matter

format the partition that has vista on it ?

vista installs a boot manager on your boot drive it will still be there after format of vista partition unless Vista was on boot partition it gives you that menu
xp uses boot.ini get vistaboot pro its freeware from here http://www.vistabootpro.org/track/click.php?id=2 it or as said easybcd I prefer boot pro it runs in xp and use it to remove Vista boot manager and to rerstore xp boot.ini all done

Like says, it is the Boot.ini file that has to be edited.
Boot.ini is a hidden file so unhide all files Windows Explorer~ Folders are not allowed ~ Options/View ……. check ‘show hidden files and folders’ and uncheck ‘hide protected operating system files’
Then goto drive C and you should see Boot.ini file.
Open it in Notepad and you will see something like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP -- C" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP -- E" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Yours will show an entry for Vista so just delete the Vista line and nothing else then save the file.
