How To Completely BackUp Computer

July 25th, 2016

ok im thinking of trying to install Mac OSX Leopard on my computer, but i dont want to try it if I cant backup all of my programs and stuff (in case i have to reinstall windows)
I have customized my windows a bit and have several programs that would be a huge hassle to try and reinstall and resetup
i think that Norton Ghost would be able to do this but i didnt see it say anything about backing up programs
so what im looking for is – some program that i can take a complete copy of my computer now
– store the copy on an external harddrive
– reinstall windows (if i have to)
– reinstate original settings, files, & programs – i stress the programs because some of them have liscenses and i dont want to have to bother with contacting each company and getting new stuff
is this even possible?

Norton Ghost, Norton Partition Magic and Acronis True Image are just the programs for you. They can make complete backups of your system, including settings like programs. You can only restore those backups to your own computer though. For your case I would recommend creating a recovery partition on your external hard drive using Norton Partition Magic and restoring it when the need arises. Good luck mate ^_^

get an external drive and copy paste eveything there. remove the drive and put it in the back of the third closet to the right upstairs.
Answer #3
Yes it is possible with Norton Ghost 2003. It’s the most reliable application of its kind. It will make an exact image of your hard drive so when you need to restore it, your computer will be exactly the way you had it. It works fantastic when using an external hard drive to store the image on. I’ve backed up and restored so many images using Ghost that I lost count. It never failed me yet.

so when youve done this you just take the backup image using Norton Ghost
and then when youve reinstalled windows you just install Norton Ghost
and then apply the back up?
Answer #5
Yes. You can even apply the backup to a blank partition or hard drive if you wish. You don’t even need to “install” Ghost. You can run it from a floppy or a CD.
Answer #6
The ghost file should contain your windows and so you won’t have to reinstall windows seperately, I would think ?

Have plenty of positive experience with Acronis mentioned above, just get a USB hard drive to save your backed up image, they’re cheap enough and comes in handy at mates place when you have heaps of stuff you wanted copied

An easier trouble free way to test OSX86 is to just get any old hard disk, then disconnect the real one and use that for the testing. Then you don’t have to restore the whole thing after trying it. Just take out the OSX and put the original disk back. I did that, and it saved me loads of time.
