How do i make a Pandoras Battery? is it safe?

August 7th, 2016

Please tel me, also, what tools are required to do so? will this screw up the memory card aswell? I only have one 1GB memory card, but will i still be able to put games and stuff on it afterwards? Please help, I’m confused 0_o
Please put your answers in the topic, im sick of being linked to other sites. Quoting the website is okay, but make it an easy-to-follow guide, please?
Why don’t they just make the custom firmware upgradeable straight from release? why do you even need a Pandora’s battery in the first place? Goddammit i’m such a noob…

Answer #1
Your PSP is safe as long as you have the right memory stick and battery. Might wanna wait abit for some confirmation if the Pandora Battery works on the 3.80. Because I’m not one of those people who know a lot about the pandora’s battery.
Lets get started ... A pandora's battery is a special service battery along with the "magic memorystick" that can downgrade and unbrick any psp (even 3.52) . You can now bring your dead (bricked) PSP back to life or downgrade any firmware psp - safetly. This amazing breakthrough is all thanks to the Noobz! team which has some of the best PSP hackers . So here's how to make your normal battery and memorystick into a Pandora battery and magic memorystick . The tutorial will be kinda hard (I tried my best to simplify it) but hang in there it aint that hard . Please follow the instructions carefully. NOTE : Vista users try using XP , vista seems to give loads of trouble .
NOTE TO NEWBIES: you have to make your normal battery into a pandora's battery via software and stuff not by manually short circuiting it or something
REQUIREMENTS :
1) A spare PSP battery (recommended) , any make will do .
2) A spare memory stick PRO DUO (it has to be PRO DUO)
3) A PSP with Custom firmware ( OE or M33) or a 1.5 PSP. Ask you friends , search for one
INSTALLATION :
1) Take out the 1.5 or Custom firmware PSP ( OE or M33) and put in the spare memorystick (it has to be pro duo) and spare battery that you wanna modify .
2)Now you gotta format the memory stick . Scroll to SETTINGS > SYSTEM SETTINGS > FORMAT MEMORY STICK
3) OK now download this pack from here . and EXTRACT it with WinRAR . Don't have Winrar Download it from here
4) Now extract the PANDORA folder from the downloaded pack to the desktop . Inside the Pandora folder you will find two other folders "msinst" and "mspformat"
5) Connect you PSP to the PC via USB cable .
6) Now in you computer go to START > RUN and type in CMD and click on OK . A black box will popout .
7) Here's kinda the confusing part . your computer might show C:\ or C:\Documents and Setting\Username> Now I told you to you to extract the folders to the Desktop . So copy the location of the msformat picture here paste it followed by the drive letter of your PSP (eg my psp drive removable disk (I the letter is I )
Now if your PC shows C:/ in your CMD copy the address bar and paste it in followed by the letter of your psp drive .
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop\PANDORA\mspformat\mspformat.exe I
IF you PC shows C:\Documents and Setting\Username> copy the address bar and paste it in followed by the letter of your psp drive
C:\Documents and Setting\Username>Desktop\PANDORA\mspformat\mspformat.exe I
8) Keep trying till you get this prompt (like mine) :
>>> C:\Documents and Setting\Username>Desktop\PANDORA\mspformat\mspformat.exe I
>>> You are about to format the drive I .
>>> All Data will be lost . Do you want to continue? [Y]
Then you type in y and you will see
>>> Drive successfully formatted, and partition moved.
After that you can close the CMD box
9) Disconnect your psp from the PC and remove the memory card and turn of the PSP , then place the MS (MS=memory stick) back in and turn the PSP on . Then reconnect you PSP to the Pc . NOTE: You have to do this
10) Now download this pack from here , extract it with WinRar and copy the PSP folder and the UPDATE.PBP to the ROOT of the PSP memory stick . If you you have a 1.5 PSP no problem , If you have Custom Firmware make sure you turn on the 1.5 kernel mode ( to know how see here)
11) Disconnect your PSP . Scroll to GAME and click on "Pandora's Battery Firm. Installer" it will take a few moments . After its done remove the MS from the PSP turn it off then place it back in and turn the PSP back on again, you HAVE to do this .
12) Connect your PSP to the PC . A Few files and folders will be formed in your ROOT , now copy the msipl.bin from the root to the "msinst Folder" which is inside your extracted Pandora folder . It should look like this
13) Here we go again START >RUN type in CMD . That black box will open again . Now copy the address of the msinst.exe followed by the PSP drive letter followed by the address of the msipl.bin
Now if your PC shows C:/ in your CMD it should be something like this (with reference to PSP's drive as I)
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop\PANDORA\msinst\msinst.exe I Documents and Settings\username\Desktop\PANDORA\msinst\msipl.bin
IF you PC shows C:\Documents and Setting\Username> then it will look something like this :
C:\Documents and Settings\username>Desktop\PANDORA\msinst\msinst.exe I Desktop\PANDORA\msinst\msipl.bin
If you did it right you will get a prompt like (this promp will differ from PC to PC) :
>>> PSP MS IPL Installer
>>> Load IPL code msipl.bin
>>> 241664 bytes(59 block) readed
>>> Target DRIVE is 1
>>> Check partation Sector
>>> boot status 0x80
>>> start head 0x0B
>>> start sec/cyl 0x0018
>>> partation type 0x06
>>> last head 0x7F
>>> last sec/cyl 0xCFE0
>>> abs sector 0x00000177
>>> ttl sector 0x0003CF689
>>> signature 0xAA55
>>> Check BPB Sector
>>> signature AA55
>>> Check free reserved sector:OK
>>> Write ABS Sector 0x10 to 0x1E7
>>> Are You Sure ?[Y]
Type in Y and you will get
>>> Write MS BOOT CODE
Congrats you now have a Magic Memory stick . Now Disconnect your psp from the PC and remove the memory card and turn of the PSP , then place the MS back in and turn the PSP on .
NOTE : if you get
>>> PSP MS IPL Installer
>>> Load IPL code msipl.bin
>>>Can't open msipl.bin
The location (address) of the msipl.bin is WRONG (i got this like 100 times until I figured it out just keep trying )
NOW MAKING THE PANDORA UNBRICKING BATTERY :
14) After you have the magic MS leave it in the PSP then , Turn on your psp and go to Pandora's battery Creator , make sure you have the spare battery in it . I Recommend backing up so you can make the pandora battery into a normal one press "triangle " first it will back up then go to "Pandora's battery Creator" again and press X You normal spare battery is now a PANDORA UNBRICKING BATTERY WOO HOO You did it .
NOTE :when the Pandora's battery Creator loads and if you get "ERROR at address 0x27" or a similar error you are screwed , you cant turn that battery into a Pandora battery but you can use it as a normal battery . Use another battery and try again . How do I know this ??? coz I got screwed too : P

With the pandora battery you cant turn your PSP on, (you have to have it charging when you use it) a magic memory card basically just has the files on it to downgrade, you can easily change it back by formatting the card afterwards. Pandora batterys can be changed back to normal again easily. And yes a pandora battery will work on version 3.90, (works on all versions )
Hope that helps

Thanks mate! Now, one last question: “Will it be safe using only one battery, because i don’t have a spare?”, and can you give me the guide to turn Pandora’s battery back to normal? Oh, and that guide is confusing, i cant make heads or tails of it. Please get an easier one for me to follow, im stuck on the command prompt bit
Oh, and can you please link me to the files i need?
I think i’m gonna downgrade it finally today and Crisis core will be mine
Answer #6
Yes it will be safe using the one battery but you’re going to need a PSP that already has a custom firmware to make the pandora battery. For a good guide register on

Answer #10
even when 4.00 m33 comes out you will still need a pandoras battery. and i doubt anyone is making a new downgrader now that there is one that can work on any psp.

Why don't they just make the custom firmware upgradeable straight from release? why do you even need a Pandora's battery in the first place? Goddammit i'm such a noob...

its not hard to hack a psp, people just want to post the hard way, or link to their websites to promote them.
all you need to hack a psp is a pandora/service battery and a memory stick, the other people want you to do it the hard way like they did.
all you need is at least a 64mb memory card, all you are doing is putting the custom firmware installation files on it so of course its usuable as a normal memory card after.
after you hack your psp and install custom firmware simply format the memory card with your psp and it will make new file directories, one of them ISO which you simply click and drag psp games into it, and load it up like you would a normal game, a new option will appear on your psp under game named memory stick.
and you asked why the hell you need a pandora? simple, SONY WANTS YOU TO BUY THEIR GAMES NOT PIRATE, before you did not need to buy anything special, but with every new update sony blocked the old hacks, when pandora came out, it took away the need to make new hacks since pandora bypassed sony’s software altogether.
what a pandora/service battery does is changes the boot order of your psp to the memory card so you can launch whatever you want from it, the only way to mod a psp 3.51 and up is with a pandora battery, if you dont want to buy one, and cant get your hands on a already hacked psp, you can open up a psp battery and hard mod it.
datel the makers of action replay also sell pandora batteries, they also sell a psp battery flashing kit, that changes your psp battery into a pandora and back again in seconds.
here is how to mod your psp battery manually though.
How to mod your psp battery.
Note this guide is for official.
Sony 1200mAh, 1800mAh or 2200mAh Batteries, either fat or slim.
you might be able to mod a fake psp battery but you are on your own i know no idea where to get a guide for fake batteries.
Opening your battery.
Simply get a object with a edge and simply pry it open, in this guide we are using a guitar pick but use whatever you have, just using a guitar pick to slide in through an edge and slide around the perimeter of the battery to seperate the two halves. Image

Locating chip with eeprom data

Next, we need to locate a certain chip. The chip has the model number S93C56 printed on it. We are going to need to desolder pin 5 and lift it off of the board
Image

Newer batteries have a much smaller board with a different layout. The same chip needs to have the pin lifted, but the chip is in a different position. Once you’ve located chip S93C56, the rest of the instructions are basically the same. This has been confirmed with the 2200 mAH Official Sony battery.

Desoldering
If you are not confident in your soldering skills, have a less than steady hand or have a larger-than-optimal sized tip, please desolder the cell pack from the battery first. If you make contact between pins 5 and 6 then you will short ground to +3.6VDC!When desoldering the cell, only keep the iron on long enough to melt the solder. If you can, use a higher wattage iron so that the tip will be hotter, but you won’t transfer as much heat to the cell pack.
Now is actually desoldering the pin. There are a few ways you could do this, here is one of them. Use an Xacto knife with a sharp tip and try to put it underneath the pin. Get somebody to hold a soldering iron (WITH A VERY FINE CONICAL TIP!) on the pin. When the solder melts you can pop the pin up with the knife. Be sure not to hold the iron on the board too long to avoid the lithium battery from getting too hot and exploding. When your done it will look something like this. Image
Congratulations you now have a psp service/pandora battery, get some tape and tape the battery back together, (or glue if you dont plan on using it anymore), and plug it in your psp and hack again, after you finish hacking your psp, simply reground the pin and glue the battery back up and it will be a normal battery again..
so to recap buy get your hands on the battery, get the custom firmware installation files.
download the easy installer here.
http://dl.qj.net/TOTALNewbi-easyInstaller-PSP-Tools-Utilities-(on-PC)/pg/12/fid/14749/catid/193
(this is easy way)
simply format your memory card with your psp, to make psp file directories and run the easy installer and it will copy the files to your memory card for you, no need to do anything hard.
then plug in the service/pandora battery into your psp and hit x (or [] to make a restore image of you psp if you are scared of screwing up, this restore image is like you making a restore image of your pc)
after hitting x in 40-60 seconds your psp is hacked congrats.
buy the battery here strait for the manufacter (trusted company that sells products in major stores like walmart/bestbuy etc……)

or you can buy the kit to flash your battery into one.

click on the pages anyway even if you are not buying and read the product description.
hope this helps, following my steps, 12 people here at z has successfully hacked their psp’s if you wish i will link you to those threads, i posted the exact same info i did here, they are now enjoying their hacked psps, its not hard to do, if you follow my way.

if you try and make a pandoras battery without custom firmware it wont work. there will be no side effects though so give it a try

guess I'll just have to wait for 4.00M33 to come out. And idea when the 4.00 Firmware is coming out?

a long time, 3.93 is out in japan, but im sorry i was confused, you say you are already running m33 on your psp? if you are already running M33, you can just download the latest version of m33 and put it in your game folder and run it, it will update your psp to the latest version m33 (granted your psp is already running M33).
im kinda confused are you asking do you need a pandora to update your psp to a new m33 or do you want to install m33 on a non hacked psp?

SONY BLOCKS IT, sony allows you psp to install only official firmware, if you were to put the 4.00m33 files on your memory card, you would get a error message since its blocked, since its not made by sony.
to hack your psp you need a pandora battery period, no other way, and since pandora works so well there is really no need to make other hacks.

that was not for you lol, it for the other guy, he thinks he since he is running 3.90 ofw, if he puts the newer version of m33 (probably 3.93 m33 if since 3.93 ofw just came out in japan), he can update from ofw to m33, im just saying that wont work, its blocked by sony.

so i have two questions.
1. You can return a failed hacked battery to normal?
2. Do you really need to be plugged in and charging to use a hacked PSP?
thanks

1. depends if you hard modded or soft modded it. if you lifted the pin on the inside, then it could be hard to return it to normal. if you soft modded it then all you need to do is run the battery program again.
2.No way. the only reason you need to plug in is toturn on the psp, if you turned your only psp battery into a pandora.
