How do i create a movie sample
February 1st, 2024
For simiplicity try Allok MPEG4 Converter
Load in your movie.avi, select a timescale, select correct frame rate and resolution, then convert
Of course you could always use the DIVX Author 1.5 to select a sample, but that usually takes much-much longer
To just create screenshots, you can use a program called “Image Grabber II”
download here:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImageGrabber
use virtualdub or Nandub
select your start & end points then set the video to direct stream copy and save
that way there’s no recoding and a true sample is created

It was exactly as easy as you said! Thanks!
Allok Video Splitter or Boilsoft Video Splitter. Both are good with simple interface although I use Boilsoft most often for sample
Fraps 3.03 for screen shots

Good to hear
As suggested use Virtualdub to create a AVI sample
for mkv you can use mkvmerge
Edit:
AVS Video Converter..

I’ve done this in the past but the size always turns out to be around 50mb or so, You can make any size sample (5mb to 1000mb etc) with mkvmerge!

You probably didn’t do it right But it depends on keyframes as that is the only place that a Mpeg4 ASP video can begin cutting. The end can be anywhere, it’s just the start that needs to begin on a keyframe. VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod/Nandub can move by keyframe so just place a start marker after moving and then move to the end and mark again. Then save out as a directstream copy. Fairly easy once you know how.
For MKV’s you need to use MKVMerge splitting options. That is less easy as cutting is more difficult with H264 video, it’s a case of trying until you get a sample about the correct size after looking at the MKVMerge Docs.
