How are you supposed to watch HEVC files

February 7th, 2020

I notice a lot of video files that are uploaded for sharing are in hevc format which is I guess 4K. How are you supposed to watch these files. The players I’ve tried that say they support this codec don’t. Are you supposed to have a 4K TV? I wish people would state that they’re hevc so I don’t waste my time downloading them.

VLC media player will work with them.. Here is a link (Its freeware).
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
(You dont need a 4k TV.. Its just you are using outdated video players)

You need fairly good CPU though, it is pretty CPU intensive as GPUs can’t usually give the support that they do with x264.
Doing HEVC and 4K is straining the friendship too…As many of them would have a high bitrate.
PotPlayer is also good for that stuff.
Or Kodi, at least on a TV box.

hevc format which is I guess 4K
HEVC/x265 is not so much 4K here, it’s more a better quality smaller file size x264 replacement MPC-HC is another player you can use
I wish people would state that they're hevc
HEVC/x265 (h265) are all the same codec so any file listed as x265 is HEVC
and the most current “LAV filters” should split and play x265/HEVC if installed with almost any software player
Answer #4
try lentoid h.265 decoder because it is meant to be the fastest h.265 decoder. if you have a video card that supports h.265 decoding then even better. you can use lentoid with mpc-hc. this reminds me to check for an update……
personally i avoid it. i prefer x264 for hardware compatibility reasons with my media player. it pays to read the thread because they should say what codec they use.

HEVC format most worst format. you can try 4k normal encode version. Vlc Supports most off all format
