Help With Dolby Sound Difference

August 3rd, 2016

I am going thru my media and renaming a lot of it so scrapers can get the right info and also so I know the codecs used for the file.
example
Tv Show – S01E01 – Pilot (BluRay.720p.H264.DD-5.1)
A lot of my media uses Dolby sound but I’m not sure how to tell the difference between the different types or if people even separate them such as Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic. i know that pro logic simulates surround but I’m not sure how to tell which files use them if any. In VLC I’ve seen 3 things pop under audio codec info for chans.
3F2R/LFE – common
Dolby – common
Stereo – uncommon
Is Dolby and stereo 2 different things? also if 1 is pro logic, would i name the file DD still or DPLII?

Answer #1
MediaInfo should give you more information..
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
Answer #2
Dolby Pro Logic is only created as 5.0 sound, not 5.1, no separate subwoofer chan.
