HELP! trying to install windows 7 on a gateway laptop

July 26th, 2016

Hi i have installed windows 7 on desktop computers maybe like 10 times without any problems… but i tried to install it on my girlfriends gateway laptop and after it finishes installing and ask for user name and password.. it restarts and then it boots up into system recovery… does anyone know why??? usually on the Desktop it just loads right into desktop at this point….

Repeat the process but delete all partitions and re-create,That should fix it.
If there’s any important data on one of the partitions then back it up
first using active boot disk or linuxmint.

i know this thread is old but for anyone who comes across it trying to find an answer, here it is. I just tried putting windows 7 on a buddies gateway desktop and all seemed to go well until the same happened as mentioned above. for some reason it will not take windows 7, my best guess is something to do with the os being branded with gateway. anyways, to get it to work again (as i forgot to make the recovery cds before formating) i had to format again and install vista. It then did the same thing and went to the recovery screen after rebooting. i chose the last option and it tookl me into gatewway system restore and was able to restore using the backup drive that came with the computer. thank god, all is well. it was actually my bosses computer, haha.

I have a dead Gateway Hitachi HDD. Gateway wants the full price for a reinstall plus the computer back! Cost to me would be more than the computer is worth. Beware that company’s warranty policies…
Need to find some Gateway Win 7 install discs if anyone has them to share. Can’t find them anywhere…

It is against the rules to make a reply to an old topic unless under special circumstances such as, but not limited to, the topic's discussion has died but there is new striking evidence to turn thoughts around or saying thank you for the author.
