Provide the exact models of both RAM sticks (read from the label)
Answer #2
Yes as Roberto said, You could provide exact models of Ram since I believe if you are going to put two 1gb rams of different models/type that could generally cause this issue.

Both sticks are double sided and have the same voltage/timings
so they should work fine together but that’s clearly not the
case here,If each stick works standalone then try updating
the BIOS,If that doesn’t work you’ll have to replace it
for a different one.

how to upgrade the bios??
hmmm how about my OS xp sp2?? it is possible to this oS?
Answer #6
Download the update from ACERs website for
your specific model:
http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/download.htm
and no it has nothing to do with your OS.

Or The ram you brought might not be compatible with your Mobo. Well happened to me once.
Answer #12
Those two ram chips are 800 MHz ?, and looking at Acer site it says the board supports 400/533/667 MHz

Answer #13
It could just be a case that there not compatible with each other, I dont think messing with the bios will help or anything to do with
the OS

There’s no such button,Only a jumper which
should be located near the battery which
can be used to reset the bios,Usually
one would have to unplug the power cord, move
the jumper to pins 2-3 and leave it there for ~15 seconds
then put back to pins 1-2,re-plug the power cord and power up.
I somewhat doubt it’d help but i guess there’s no harm in trying.

That’s why i told him to update the Bios,Bios updates improve
memory compatibility among other things.

That’s fine,DDR is backwards compatible,It’d just run at 667.
