how to jailbreak a PS3 version FW 4.45
It depends on what firmware it was on when new you can find that out by checking your model number it’ll start with cech then google from there.

Its the model number of your playstation it always starts with cech then a feww numbers after that its on on the back i have a super slim so my model number is cech-4003c
go to this site for all the info, basically you need FW 3.55 in order to do an easy jailbreak. Any other firmware requires additional hardware and if you don’t know what you are doing you will mess up your system. Otherwise just buy a used ps3 with 3.55 on it on ebay or something

As far as I know in order to jailbreak firmware that’s over 3.55. You need a hardware flasher to go back down to 3.55 to install newer CFW (Custom Firmware).
Such that a hardware flasher is required like the E3 Flasher which will run you about $100 on Amazon.
A few other sites I seen might be $20 cheaper for the same exact flasher.
is there anyway i can format my hard drive of ps3 and install another firmware?

STEP 1: Plug a USB stick into your computer
STEP 2: Create a folder in the root of the USB stick called PS3
STEP 3: Create a folder inside the PS3 folder called UPDATE
STEP 4: Move PS3UPDAT.PUP to the directory UPDATE that you just created on the USB stick
STEP 5: Plug the USB stick into your PS3
STEP 6: Navigate to Settings Tab
STEP 7: Choose System Update
STEP 8: Choose Update via Storage Media
STEP 9: It will say it found Version 4.45-jb
STEP 10: Choose OK
STEP 11: Accept Conditions and Install Update
STEP 12: After less than a minute, your PS3 will update, beep 4 times then shut down.
STEP 13: Power up your PS3 (You will have to do it on the console and not by the controller)
STEP 14: Your PS3 is now jailbroken!

Don’t bother asking for the password. It won’t work anyway. As you stated yourself, you need to downgrade to 3.55 first. As of today (and probraly for a very long time) it’s not possible to jailbreak the PS3 without downgrading first.
And also, Kirax incorrectly stated that you can play games online. It is possible, but Sony can see that your PS3 was jailbroken, and they WILL ban you. Not just you, but they’ll ban the entire console (each console has an unique ID). Whilst it is also possible to change the ID once jailbroken, Sony just keeps banning you. And if you pick a new console key, it is possible that you pick one that has been banned already, or one that belongs to a non-jailbroken PS3. Then you’re also screwing with the users who actually buy their games (which is a big no-go in my opinion).
