Answer #1
what format did u format it in bro ? NTFS or FAT32 ? and are u gettin the error “this drive has malfunctioned” ?
Answer #2
yeah i formatted it to a FAT32 but the thing is im on a mac and i dont know how to format to NTFS on a mac :S any ideas?
yeah i was getting that message on the windows and on my mac it just wasnt showing up
Answer #3
ah yes, i see. Ur mac formats it differently its called FAT32 (journaled) and i heard that u cannot format it as NTFS on a mac. To use ur drive with windows use somefin called macdrive (search it on forum) (this is if it is formatted as FAT32 {journaled}). to format it as NTFS u must use a windows comp bro.
Answer #4
ok thanks man and how do i do it on a windows can you tell me?? coz ive got access to a windows computer here
Answer #5
sure np, to format ur drive as an NTFS. plug in ur drive and wait for it to be recognized, then right click on it (in MY Computer) and choose properties, then choose format. Then choose NTFS and if u want u can “quick format” to speed things up and i believe u can recover files u accidentally delete if u choose this. Then click format and it should format.
If any trouble send me a screenshot so i can help u out.
Answer #6
but the thing is it say USB device not recognized or should i use that macdrive program so that it will be recognized and then do that?
Answer #7
ah yes, try using the Macdrive program to see if it recognises.
EDIT: if that doesnt work, i just found out that u can use an app for ur mac called NTFS-3G, that gives u the ability to format as NTFS in disk utility. So try that out if the Macdrive thingy dont work.
Answer #8
ok but how do i get it to recognize on my mac?? coz it isnt showing up on my mac either :S
Answer #9

I had this problem to!
but i messed up my External Hard drive. fixed it today.
What i did. It was formated for mac. with 20gb and 14gb free space (Not showing up on any computer + no other partition)
Installed MacDrive 8 pluged in External HDD. opened MacDrive.
clicked format/modify using MacDrive.
then click the hdd. and selected Initialized disk. it worked on windows as a 500gb HDD. (Which it was)
plugged into mac and formated into 2 Partitions.
