Hacked! -Steam items stolen-

February 4th, 2020

hey w-BB,
I recently discovered something horrible – I have been hacked on Steam. Now, the issue isn’t the account, the hacker (or whomever) just decided to strip me of $200 worth of weapon skins on CS:GO. Although I still have the account, I’m pretty p*ssed, you can imagine.
Now, I. Want. My. Weapons. Back. I’ve contacted Steam but although they haven’t replied, I don’t see anything enlightening in the future. I could simply have transferred items to a dummy account and ask for duplicates. Or even better, that poor sap could’ve paid me off-the-grid (Paypal?) in exchange for the weapons. Theres no real proof that I didn’t give the weapons to the guy.
I need some kind of advise, aside from “get over it”, on what to do to probably either get revenge or convince Steam that those are mine.
Also, how did this son-of-a-***** get into my account? I’m spyware free, aware of phishing links and such since the beginning of my account! Do give me your thoughts.
Any luck?
Thanks in advance.
~AF2
P.S: Yes, I’m mildly addicted to CS:GO ^^
Furthermore, I’ve not clicked any phishing links, nor have any spyware installed or w/e could compromise my account.

Please keep your personal dramas for yourself or atleast into a more apropriate section such as Off-Topic.
Also, as helpful advice, from seeing your little outburst I suggest you reconsider your life choices and stop spending so much money on weapon skins next time.
As you said it there’s nothing else you can do than wait for a response.
Do not mini-mod. We would like to encourage and thank members to use the report button but not add their own criticism.

Thanks, but its not the account I lost, its the items in the account I lost. Its pretty valuable since I messed with some market trading and outpost websites, but those were transferred to another account which I have hold of, just can’t prove that its mine and I didn’t intend to give it to the other guy.

Does it appear like a joke? I am serious about this. And this IS the off topic section, just under serious discussions.
I don’t see how being insulting is helping me, so as far as I can see, you’re being the most useless person to me so far.
Just for your information, how I got weapon skins are none of your business but I didn’t spend a single cent in the game itself, I MADE the money FROM the game to purchase them. The only loss is to the hacker.
Now, unless you’d like to help, get lost find someone else to insult. Please? Thanks.

it seems serious to me that you were a victim of theft. your choices are your own and should be your personal business, meaning not ours to vote on. coming to this forum and asking for advise on how to recover from a crime seems entirely appropriate. on that I cannot help since I zero clue what steam is, weapons skins……
edit: nor an outpost website?

Thanks, I’m glad you respect my privacy and decisions.
Steam is a gaming platform, its rather popular for games you could probably find it if you pop it on Google.
Weapon Skins are virtual weapons, basically, which have some real monetary value to those collectors in the game. These were what was stolen from me.
Not an outpost website, my account was compromised. I logged in to find them traded off to another player whom I have no idea who it is. What I am looking for is some way, if any, to convince Steam that I didn’t give away my items. Or some kind of way to get them back.

I will have to agree on this. This is no joke, relax mate s**t happens. Ask Steam politely whether they can check your account for a transaction that happened on a different ip address and provide them of your last transactions on paypal to show them that you haven’t done anyhting unusual there. Other than that, it’s up to them really.
You are posting in ways to bypass the word censor
I am requesting that you quit doing this...
Whatever you have to say can be done without profanity or other censored words being used.
If this continues further action may need to be taken

When sh*t happens, its never fun – especially on the receiving end. Now explain what you think is meant by “outburst”. Am I to receive more sh*t by people I’m looking to help for? Because that post by t3h cens0r// is nothing but insulting. And secondly, I think its fair enough to be in Serious Discussions. Its not serious to you, but it definitely is serious to me. But on the other hand, your advise is sound and appreciated. I will do so and report back if it works. Thank you.
Meanwhile, other suggestions are welcome.

Seems no one knows how to resolve your issue other than through STEAM. Since you don’t know how the stuff
got stolen, what else do you have that can be hacked? What I mean is, hacked 1 time leads to a second time.
Change your account settings at a minimum to prevent hack #2
I am sure google can give you some ideas about “steam account hacked”.

If you don't have any useful input to add, please don't post at all. Thank you.

Just some info on another online game World of Warcraft… I had a friend who had his account hacked and they took items and gold. My friend contacted Blizzard and it did take about 1-2 weeks to get back in contact with him, but they recovered his items, but couldn’t do anything about the gold. All though it is another company I am sure this is a pretty common occurrence and you should get your items back.

I am sure google can give you some ideas about "steam account hacked".

I have changed everything, even created an alternate email address just to prevent this, thank you .
What I have left to be hacked is the account itself, so…I’m taking measures to prevent that.
Google didn’t provide anything solid besides contacting Steam.
What I’m still looking for is some kind of convincing evidence that I did not intend to give it to the hacker freely, but thanks for your response!

Erm I guess? Not what I had in mind and not really what I’m after, but I think you’re not taking it as a very serious suggestion. Right? XD Just some info on another online game World of Warcraft... I hope so.
The problem with such a case is that trading like this happens a lot, where people pay outside the system for virtual items inside the system. E.g: I give you $50 right now via PayPal/Bank Transfer for an item in game, and in the game it appears like you’ve given me a gift but actually I paid you $50. Go figure. You can see why this is somewhat difficult.
Their 48 hours is up. Still no reply.

a good advice would be to create a password with capital letters and numbers in it. Also make sure you use a unique secret question for your email address, link your mail with your cellphone numbers so that if someone tries to change password or secret Q, you’ll get a message, don’t open any mails that say: free ~ censored ~ finder, free porn, hey cutie I want to add you on FB and all those bullshits. Also install a free anti virus. Don’t worry if you have submitted a ticket, they will answer you back. Make sure to submit a ticket in English, cause foreign language supports take a bit longer.
Answer #13
Its English. I guess they’re just a little late in the reply.
Good tips, I’ll change the password again after another virus scan just to double-check.
I never ever open those mail.

“Theres no real proof that I didn’t give the weapons to the guy.”
most any site, I know yahoo does, log ip’s and provides the country the ip originated, which in your case would provide proof of theory: you was hacked. it would be useful for them in their preventive measures to protect their patrons.
edit: in my yahoo example the ip log is in the profile section, as I recall, so there may be a comparable log on this site.

Its a good suggestion, thanks. I have already said something similar in the original ticket to Steam, but…I’m still waiting for a reply.
Answer #16
Even if its the “off the system” trading. When your item/skin get send to another player/where ever else. The ip at that moment is not your. Therefore you have a case you can fight. At lease if steam willing to help that is.

Noted. Their reply seemed standard, “we’ll look into it and update you <blah blah>”
Stuff like that. Thank you all for your help.
Looks like IP is the best case against the hacker.
