GTX260 Black Edition crashes on gaming
August 4th, 2016
So i’ve build a new rig for myself
Core I7 860 Lynnfield 2.8Ghz
3GB Corsair ASUS P7P55D Pro Motherboard
XFX Geforce 260 1GB Black Edition
620 Watts Coolermaster Powersupply
All went fine for about 2 weeks now, but suddenly the system starts crashing and hanging itself on every 3D game that I run. IE: World of Warcraft, Mini Ninja’s, Trainz, just to name some. I can watch movies, browse the web and all that with no problem. This, as said, suddenly started. I went on vacation, came back and booted up, started wow and there it started.
Now I went through all the trouble of Un/Reinstalling Nvidia drivers, MoBo drivers with no avail. Then I decided that Windows 7 might’ve gotten buggy for some reason so I reinstalled this also. Then I tried it with the standard drivers that Windows installs and same thing again. Installed all the Video/Mobo drivers again and same crap.
It appears that the file nvdllmkm.dll is the culprit, which is the MiniPort driver from Nvidia. I appear not the be the only one with this problem. I’ve tried to put the fan on 100% cooling, but then again, it doesn’t get warmer then 60C when playing wow or any game without putting the fan on high speed. I’ve also tried throtting the core back a bit, but this does not help either.
Does anyone have any clue or should I return the card and get myself an ATI 4670 like I had in my old rig (Which I wish i’d never sold now) It kind of sucks that you build a new rig for your average games and it just keeps crashing.
I might actually try Windows XP if noone has a clue
Thanks for replies
Edit: Added PSU info
I was going to suggest the same things you’ve already done, but I guess you’ve already done them. If you’re able to return it, I’d do it as you won’t have much of a hassle. Also, why don’t you buy one of the ATi’s 5xxx? They have DX11 and it would be worth the money on the long run.
you remove and re-seat the card ?
get “everest ultimate” to check other temps as well
there a BIOS update for your mobo ?
I’ve reseated, there’s not a bios update that’s viable for this problem according to the text. The weirdest part to me is that it started after a week or 2 in full useage. I guess I’ll have to lookup the reciept and get another card, the core/memory might just be bad then after all.
Have a look here

That’s a thread of the same error, may have some tips.
There’s a warning about some cards and some chipsets (x58) not being compatible.
It’s interesting – it also states that no-one with a pirated xp has the problem, there’s something IN full xp that causes it (??) – try a mini/tiny/beast xp (or tny vista or tiny W7).
You didn’t state your power supply. What is it?
What are your temps? Did you take the film cover off the fan as mine was very hidden…
I have a Coolermaster PSU with 620 Watts
My temps idle are:
CPU: 30C (86 F)
GPU 44C (110 F)
The times i’ve seen the temps of the CPU/GPU under load were
CPU: 45C/50C (110F)
GPU: 60/65C (140F)
I don’t find this very high as my older P4 with an older graphics card runs over 80C
I’ve also openend a ticket with XFX to see what they think.
@, I was sure to remove it, as I knew about the film
Thanks for replies
ok dude lets see. on the back of your nvidia card inside the case there is a or should be a green light if all is well, open case, look at card after post. see green. do stuff like 3dgame with side panel off and after error see what the card says. red or green light. and yes i know i talk psu but it is critical in a rig
Naz
Ok I shall have a look but I can’t remember seeing any light on the PSU or GPU, the MoBo does have a load of lights. But as said, will check again.
To update this thread: I sold the GTX260 and got a ATI Saphhire 5770 1GB and it’s running fine. Guess it was incompatibility with my MoBo.
Thanks for the replies that were made
