August 6th, 2016

Hello,
Recently every time I remove files from my Recycle bin I get this error :

Can’t remove desktop. The map is damaged or unreadable.
How do I get this error away?

Answer #1
Did you delete any file from the your %system% drive?
I once deleted the entire windows folder when i was a kid thinking that it was a big pile of ****.

Never seen this problem myself, what files are in the recycle bin, have you tried restoring all the files, and then deleting again? It sounds to me as though either your HDD or your recycle bin is corrupted. Maybe run chkdsk and check for corruptions on your HDD, if this doesn’t pick anything up, try rebuilding the recycle bin:
Boot into DOS (hold the CTRL key at startup, and choose Command Prompt
Only from the menu). At the DOS prompt type:
cd c:
c:
deltree /y recycled
When you boot back into Windows, the recycle bin will be
rebuilt from fresh.

hmmm… what OS are you using?
Looking at my previous post I think the instructions would only have worked under Win98/2000.
If on Windows XP boot into Safe Mode with command prompt by pressing F8 on startup, and selecting the ‘Safe Mode with Command Prompt’ option. when it has booted up you should be at a C:\> prompt. from here type:
del recycled
Windows will ask you whether you are sure on not. Press ‘y’ to confirm, or ‘n’ to cancel.
