Epub vs Pdf

August 16th, 2013

Yesterday i downloaded a Ebook and it was in .Epub extension which i have never seen before. I searched in net a lot and found that this content can be opened in mobs, tablets etc. Also some websites are mentioning it is rich in content to which i dont understand the meaning. Does that mean Pdf’s are not rich in contents ?
I Just want to know the difference between Pdf and Epub extension.
Is epub or pdf really a gud one ?

I now read my documents in tablets so I had do a head rest while reading. And I notice that with epub, you can change it to invert (black background, white text), auto change on orientation including the text, also, some of the readers I tried (for mobile) does not support pdf. I think pdf is for legacy nowadays.

EPUBs are basically XHTML/CSS documents. They are similar to web pages encapsulated in a ZIP like container. The have the text within the XHTML files while the CSS controls how that text is displayed.
The primary advantages of EPUB is text reflow, changes to the font and selection of background/foreground color among others.
If you want consistency in document display, go for PDF. If you want to get the data across and it to have more display flexibility, EPUB’s the way to go.
PDF are rich in content but I guess the comparison of EPUB’s was to normal text documents.
Personally, I prefer EPUB’s as some PDF’s might have fonts that are a bit difficult to read (serif fonts on displays is a bit strenuous on the eye) and are generally, lesser in size than PDFs.
If you’d like a good reader, I’d recommend Cool Reader for both Android and Windows platforms.

Cheers.
