Embed subtitles to avi with virtualdub and file size
January 27th, 2020
I have embed subtitles to an avi video with virtualdub using XVID codecs. The problem is that the new avi file with the embedded subtitles is compressed and is smaller in size than the original avi file.
Can anyone tell me what settings i should apply in XVID configuration so as the new file has equal file with the original one?
no answer?
You have to set the XVid total file size and ensure that you enter the audio file size and that will set the correct bitrate for the 2nd pass giving a file size of the encoded video very close to what you set.
Maybe using mkvmerge to merge individual video plus subtitles file would do.

I think he is hard subbing rather than just adding a subtitle such as srt to the video container. So he is re-encoding the video which is why he needed advice on XVid configuration. At first I thought he was trying to mux the subs with a video.
