Okay i download a dvdrip version of a movie do i just burn the files to a dvd or do i have to convert them

easiest way to burn to dvd is use convertx to dvd. Its straight foreward to use, and yes they need to be converted so it will be able to be read on the DVD player. You can burn it to CD as AVI if the dvd player does read avi files

You can watch it directly from you computer, mate. Just use Media Player Classic, or VLC, or KMPlayer

if you have a divx player, you can burn it directly( no coverting) to a dvd, then play it on your dvd player.(dvix dvd players plays Xvid too )

why do that when you can burn it to a CD and save a blank DVD wasting 4GB?

You can burn 6 of them on 1 DVD, so it gets much ceaper than burning to CD
