DVD Compression for Upload

I want to upload a Movie to RS.com, and then Post here, a movie that is not on the site. I have the DVD. How can I put it on my Hard Drive in a 700 to 1 GB size so I can upload to site?
This is my first upload of a movie can anyone provide tut or assistance? Thanks.

A bit of an old and basic guide. It might not work with recent DVD’s. You might need AnyDVD for recent DVD’s.
