Customizing Windows 2000

August 5th, 2016

Yup yup, I would like to get Vista, but I’m not experienced enough to know how to install it and all that, and I really don’t feel like screwing my computer over.
So does anyone know what I can do to give Windows 2000 a cleaner look? Or just any good add ons for it? Post what you think.
Appreciated,

I know, I would like to but I’m 13 and really don’t understand how to install a completely different platform. If you think you could break it down for me then go ahead and tell me how to get all the info and I’ll post it.

Was talking on some other game forums, and alot of people said to get either Xp or Vista. Since I have no clue how to illegally install it, about how much does it cost at the store? (Xp Professionals and Vista?) To be honest, I would still just rather get some good side programs for my 2000, and avoid the whole platform issue. So post your thoughts.
Edit:Sorry for double post, was on the third page and really need some answers.

As you have 2000 installed ,your PC would be fairly old, so Vista would not normally be suitable…
Maybe you could try this..

I’d really recommend you install the Astonshell. This is a program that totally replaces the windows explorer desktop (but does NOT uninstall it, you can switch back between Aston and Explorer at will)
It will work fine with windows 2000 and is supposed to be less resource hungry than the basic explorer desktop that windows uses. But when I used it I found that that was down to the theme you used.
A light-weight theme on Aston definitely uses less ram/cpu than windows explorer desktop. But a really fancy theme with lots of moving images can end up using more resources. It can really transform the look and feel of your PC without the hassle of upgrading to a new OS.
A Vista theme and my favorite, the No_Escape theme

There are all sorts of drop-down menus and side-pas available which you can use to add links to folders or apps. Makes things a lot more interesting than a blank background or a big picture covered in links and crap. I’d recommend first installing Aston to replace the windows explorer desktop and then also installing Directory Opus to replace the windows explorer file manager. In this way you’ll totally change your basic windows look with a new layout and it will both feel and function differently.
and if you don’t like any part of it you can simply uninstall Aston or Opus to get back to the way things are now.
Current desktop look, but on linux so not using Aston here
