Critical Sound card driver problem

July 25th, 2016

My system winxp sp 2, P4 3.0, 2GB DDR, Gigabyte 8ipe775pro mobo, geforce 7600gt gfx, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy, and a thermaltake 430W PSU.
Before i had problems with the onboard sound (AC97) so i upgrade it to a better sound card. It worked very well with the drivers came with the sound card EXCEPT recently i upgraded the driver, and the comp occaisionally give me the BSOD (blue screen of death) with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and errors with p17.sys ( the sound card driver). in F.E.A.R, i can’t even shoot, – BSOD every time gun makes a sound, and stutters even playing music or videos. All my drivers (incl. BIOS) are updated to latest version and i don’t have a clue how to fix this.
maybe the driver is faulty? in dxdiag under the sound tab it says p17.sys is not WHQL logo’d maybe thats the problem?
any suggestions is appreciated

Answer #3
you remove all SB softs in add/remove progies ?
uninstall the Audigy in device mgr under sound section then reboot & let windows reinstall it
then reinstall the drivers if needed

try again and this time remove all SB softs in add/remove progies, then shutdown, remove the card, reboot & shutdown, reinstall the card & reboot
Answer #4
Try system restore. Restore at the date before you update your sound driver.
