Corrupt Downloads – urgently need help

August 6th, 2016

I just bought a new computer days ago, and am having problems with downloads.
I downloaded 10 games (all between 5gb and 8gb) – and all 10 have been corrupt. I get CRC errors while extracting.

Things I’ve tried:

– Two operating systems: WinXP Pro + Win7 64bit ultimate
– Changing WinRAR version, 3 times
– Changing IDM version, 2 times
– Increasing RAM voltage (from 1.92v to 2.1v – the voltage my ram should run at) – maybe memory was causing corrupt downloads
– Installing drivers for my onboard network card, instead of the ones Windows automatically installs
– Inserted a new network card instead of using my onboard – same problems
PS: When I download small files (like 350mb videos or something) they work fine.
Nothing seems to solve the problem ;S – I’m using IDM (the one I downloaded had like 215 pages of comments, so it definately works).
Please, don’t tell me to try repairing the RAR files or to re-download the parts. They’re not really solutions to fixing the corruption of downloads. Friends of mine have downloaded the exact same links and had no problems. Also, I left my pc downloading overnight, so it wasn’t under heavy load or anything. I know there are other software out there – alternatives for WinRAR and IDM – but I would like to stick to those – naming alternatives aren’t solutions – so please, don’t suggest trying other software =/
PC Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AMD 770 (Socket AM3AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ StealthXStream 600w Ready Power Supply
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Series (OCZ2G8004GK)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
IDE DVD-RW

Any ideas? I’m running out of ideas… any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I told you to try 7zip, rarmonkey, winzip..I wasn’t saying ditch Winrar and replace it with those. I said try~ If it works, extract’em all and play your games. If not, look for other solutions. Because it’s happened before. People just used 7zip & it extracted with no probz. If that wasn’t it, it might be because your downloads weren’t fully downloaded although I doubt that. Give them a try.
Answer #2
I just tried 7zip now – it arrived to 100% and gave me an error saying “wrong password?” – and I’m sure the password is correct.
The extracted files however weren’t deleted. I mounted the ISO and tried to install it, but I got a corrupt .cab file during the installation (Cancel/retry/ignore). Retrying didn’t help either.

UPDATE: I installed a new PCI Network card since i thought my onboard one may be faulty, however the problem hasn’t been solved.
I updated my first post with the list of things I have tried…
Any ideas? I really need your help.. =/

Maybe there is something wrong with links! Try downloading them again, then you will know is it you or broken links
Answer #5
Yeah try as ^^ said but with a different D/L manager. Say…jDownloader? just for this time and see what happens.

Like I said – the files are definately ok from the server. My friends downloaded the exact same links and they worked fine for them. Also, as already mentioned, the MD5 Hash Codes of my downloads do not match the uploader’s.
I downloaded a programm memtest86+ – it tests your RAM modules … you boot from the CD and it performs the tests. I left the test running for 40 minutes in which it found 175 errors. I ran the same program on my laptop, left it for 16mins and it didn’t find a single error.
Clearly there seems to be a problem with my ram modules. Could defective ram be the cause to my corrupt downloads? No guesses please…

Looks like you’ve got bad RAM, Any chance you can try different RAM in your comp?
Answer #8
Could be some bad sectors on your hdd. Try running chkdsk /r.

yeah man, that seems to be the problem.
I tested them seperately and detected the faulty one and removed it.
Currently working with 2gb of ram instead of 4gb. I’m downloading at the moment, hoping to have no corrupt files.

Never heard that RAM has something to do with downloaded RAR files

With faulty RAM there’s a small risk that one’s pc would write to the wrong location on the harddrive, thus overwriting part of another file.
